Hey guys,

I will be starting my first cycle in a couple of weeks. I am 43 and will be on Test E and D-bol.

Just curious about how I should work out. Should I go for the 5X5 type stuff.

Or should I look to do 3sets of 8?

Or do I need more like 10 or 12 reps?

My main goal is mass.

Thanks!

whatever your goal is. I was used to a 5x5 and 3x3. Now i do 12, 6, 4, 2,1,1. Best thing to do honestly imo is to switch it up regularly. high volume, reps, intensity then switch it to low reps, less volume, etc......

8 to 12 For mass
5x5s are mainly for strength

I like to combine both schemes into each each w/o. I start with a few sets of 8-12 then finish with a few sets of heavy low reps.

I do the opposite I do my heavy power movements first for lower reps while my CNS is fresh. Then i do my higher rep assistance exercises.

Your method is probably best bro, but due to shoulder injuries I need to start light and work my way up.

I also start heavy and then throw in some lighter pump sets towards the end to get the blood flushing the muscles

lifts hit on a good point. it all depends on each person. i have to start off light also to get get the blood moing to limit any old injuries cropping up. they still do at times. the younger guys can go heavier at first while the older ones need to work into it.

Don't waste your time with too many warm-up sets if you can get away with it. Save your energy as much you can for your work sets. I'd look into HST, or HIT....

For strength, I'd do conjugate periodization.

I use to warm up with a set of 10 then 8. Working sets were 4 sets with 4-6 reps heavy. That help build a lot of mass. Now I'm still going as heavy as I can but higher reps of 12-15 per set. But the stage I'm in now is to get more defined.

Remember: Heavy weights + intensity = muscle mass gains
