Thanks IG I've got a much better attitude about it than I had originally when I tore it... and I know that is going to help. I just hope that I can maintain my size while I am off. I can use the time to focus on cardio and diet - and hopefully come back leaner and even better than now.
I will try really hard to get some pictures this weekend - I've been falling off the diet train in the past week since I started the cruise period - but I'll get some pics anyway for "Pre-Surgery" ... and I'll be sure to get post surgical pics... plus I'll see if the doc will give me a DVD of the operation. Maybe then I could even post up some clips. That would be cool.

Anyway - now I just have to call and schedule the surgery... I'm kind of hesitant to make the call... but I will try to get it scheduled in the next 2-3 weeks if possible. The doc said he could "pull some strings" if I want to get it done quicker...

A DVD of the surgery??? Fawk!! I have some pics of my surgery taken thru the scope when he did my knee, and I get a little grossed out looking at them- ewwww....

Have you ever treated anyone that had a mosaicplasty done?

Get your surgery done asap- no sense in putting it off. What's the rehab like? How limited will you be, etc?

mosaicplasty? I don't think I have - it doesn't sound familiar... but a lot of our surgeons don't write out what procedure they performed. I just did a quick search on it - and I can say that I haven't seen anyone with that done.

As far as my own rehab - well... depending on the protocols that I have looked at it can vary... but my surgeon likes to do 4 weeks in a sling with no active movement of the shoulder joint. Tabletop activity is allowed after 1-2 weeks (computer work, writing). PT starts at 4 weeks - starting out with passive range of motion only. Some Docs let you start using biceps actively as early as 6 weeks. Resisted exercise at 10-12 weeks usually - but we're talking super light stuff. Full return to all sports activities at 6-7 months - that is for athletes/throwers... for bodybuilders it is as soon as resistance training is allowed - so 3-4 months out I could start doing some light workouts.
As far as the DVD - I hope I can get one... I had a VHS tape of my last shoulder surgery - that was pretty cool.

4 weeks in a sling? Sure you'll need someone to look after you! How will you manage?

I will definitely need someone to look after me... actually one of my friends offered to move in for a month - but I don't think I will need THAT much help... and now that things are going so well with Tracy (former student) I definitely don't need my other friend staying over here!
Gonna suck not being able to drive my car though I'm going to go trade cars with my parents this weekend... they are on vacation until May anyway so they won't need it.

                    Thanks a lot G4E.

I've been really slacking this past week on just about everything - from not getting enough sleep to missing meals and eating too much junk at the wrong times. Things are going to get back under control again starting today. My plan is 1 more week of "cruising" then start back into a partial blast cycle right up until the day before my surgery. I'm going to hit everything as hard as possible within reason so I can be going into surgery with full strength.
After the surgery I am going to start rehabing the shoulder in the pool at work within the first week - even though I am not supposed to start dry land therapy until 4 weeks. We have been doing some shoulder patients in the pool very early on and getting some amazing results - people are ending up way ahead of schedule as far as ROM and strength. I basically want to be as aggressive as reasonably possible to get things better.
I am curious if any surgeons have thought of prescribing GH therapy to speed healing and recovery from surgery... That seems really logical, but I'm not sure how to even bring that up with the doctor... and I'm not about to go out self medicating. Just a thought... Anyway... off to go grocery shopping!

mpresiv - it is going to be February 28th... so i've still got about a month to wait. With my insurance I have to have it at my hospital unless I want to pay a 10% co-pay... and the doc only works at my hospital 1 day a week.

Thanks mpresiv - I'm kind of glad I have a bit of time to prepare... got a few things to get in order at work before I can take time off.

Just switched cars with my parents since they are out of the state - I'm used to driving a manual trans car - theirs is an automatic SUV ... completely different driving experience Good thing I got it early to get some practice driving it in the snow (if we get some soon) before I have to do it one handed!

haven't been posting much in other journals... been busy lately with the new girl... she's been coming over quite a bit so I haven't been playing online as much as usual - and I'm Ok with that

My training partner's father died over the weekend as well, which is just horrible - he was 57. Getting ready for church on Sunday morning he sat down on the bed to change his shirt, and just dropped over dead of a massive heart attack. I've known the family for 10-11 years now, so this is pretty rough news... The funeral is going to be Thursday morning - my boss is covering my patients so I can go, which is very nice of her.

Finally got back into the gym today - I decided to hold off after talking to the surgeon last week... but I've been going nuts since then so I went back in and did a cruise workout today. Felt good to move some weight again. I won't bother posting the workout, because it wasn't anything worth talkin about.

Another cruise workout today... this time it was biceps/forearms/calves/hams/quads - weak as a kitten for some reason again today... I think this dropping a meal a day is really hurtin my strength, combined with missing a few workouts there.

                              Workout:

                              Preacher Bicep Curls (cable):
                              60 x 15 straight

                              Dumbell Hammer Curls:
                              40s x 12 straight

                              Paramount Calf Machine:
                              130lbs 3x15 straight

                              Paramount Prone Ham Curls:
                              130lbs x 20 straight

                              BB Squat:
                              225 x 5 straight
*I planned on 15 reps... but I havent squatted since beginning of january because of the low back injury, so I guess that is OK.

                              NOTES:
I can't wait to start eating all my meals again!!! I'm still getting in probably 4000 calories, but I am starving all day long... it sucks!

Oh, and I don't think I'll be doing any pics anytime soon... missing those workouts in the middle is really making me feel like crap and kicking in the negative self image issues... I will get some in before surgery though... just so I can have a record of where I was... I'll definitely get as many post surgical pics as possible too for you guys.
