...LOL...I'm gonna paint an "L" on my forehead soon :hahano:

I dunno if I mentioned it here or not, but I went to the chiropractor last week to see if he can help me out with my shoulder problem. Anyway, one of my cervical vertebrae was out, so he adjusted my neck. And he sent my for cervical x-rays.

So today I go see him again and he gives me the results of my x-ray. I have 3 degenerative cervical vertabrae, ++narrowed disc space, osteophytes on the front and back of the vertebrae which is causing the nerve to be pinched, hence causing shoulder problems. He figures about 25% of these vertebrae are gone.

Fuckin great!! LOL So, obviously this is permanent and will cause me problems from time to time. He is going to adjust me all he can now and open up the spaces and hopefully this will alleviate my shoulder problem. When he's done, he'll be giving me an exercise/stretching regime to follow to help this problem out.

I never have neck pain, but always have had some problems- stiffness, an unstable feeling, etc. I've had a cervical pillow for a few years now. I always wondered if other people's necks sounded as gross as mine :)

So, the bright side is that now I know and I can do what I have to in order to prevent it from worsening too quickly.

At this rate, I'll be in a wheelchair by the time I'm 50....LMFAO...

haha dang IG u have no luck at all. Just keep your head held high and keep trucking u will be alright

Sorry to hear about that. Might want to see a real doctor and get a real medical opinion on that neck too. Anyone that claims "adjusting" bones with oseophytes and degenerative discs is going to be a good thing isn't someone I would trust - I don't care who they are.

Yup, I will be going to my doc. I'll get the rest of my back x-rayed too to see what state that's in.

Although from everything I have read, chiropractic treatment is recommended. The goal is to open up the joint spaces and take pressure off the nerve.

I guess when I see my surgeon about my knee, I'll be talking to him about this too.

I am heading to the chiro in 20 minutes my neck is fugged up right now.........and mine is in pain.

Well, good luck with it. Hopefully my treatment will be successful too.

I'm a little confused on how manipulating/adjusting the joints is going to cause any lasting effect of relieving pressure on the nerves - unless the pressure is caused directly by a joint not having enough mobility. all a manipulation is going to do is open up the joint space for a fraction of a second and cause some localized endorphen release which will make it feel good for a short period of time. It will not cause a lasting opening of the joint spaces because as soon as it is over everything will be right back where it was (you can't make a bone stay where you put it, unless you surgically fixate it) Traction is about the only thing that can be done non-surgically to open up the spaces around the nerves - but that is a longer term treatment than a manipulation (15 minutes vs fraction of a second). My issue in your case is that if you have discs that are already degenerative - putting that much force through them is only going to further damage them. I mean twisting a damaged joint to its maximal mobility, then applying more force to it doesn't really seem like the best idea does it? Kind of like noticing that the cord you are using for bungee jumping is a little frayed, so you want to go jump with it a few more times to see if it gets better.

Good luck to you guys though - hopefully it makes you feel better.

EDIT: hopefully this doesn't come across the wrong way - i just get worried about people that I know (even if it is just on a message board) when they are doing something that I think may be dangerous.

Thanks Aaron, I know you wrote thisout of concern. Now don;t you take wht I say the wrong way either. We can agree to disagree..lol..I am sure the physiotherapists and chiropractors rarely see eye to eye :) and I know that.

I have had chiro treatment before- 4 sessions and I have never had the problem since. My doc is excellent- he explains everything in detail and I do trust him 100%.

Anyway, I got a copy of my x-ray results today just so I'd have it. It shows .....

Narrowed C3/4, C5/6 and C6/7 disc spaces are seen with anterior and posterior osteophytes at all of these levels.

The C4/5 level is normal, as are the upper levels.

Loss of the normal lordosis is identified.

The joints of Luschka are narrowed bilaterally at the C5/6 and C3/4 levels.

The odontoid is normal. as are the soft tissues.

Yuck, that doesn't sound pretty.

You're right on the chiro/physical therapist thing - but it mostly comes from the fact that they make a lot of wild unscientific claims (except that one group I mentioned in the other thread about this) and they use techniques that may be effective - but are not as safe as they could be.
Either way...
Take a look at the other thread I started with the chiropractic info in it if you get a chance.
