i was benching 225, and i had just finished my set. i went to rack the weight, and as i set the bar in the hooks, they both snapped. 225lbs came straight down on my forehead. my spotter flipped and didnt have his wits about him enough to get it off, so i threw it off my head from a pure adrenaline rush. once i got the bleeding to stop, i went to the doctor, he sent me over to the hospital for x-ray, catscan, and an mri. they said that there were no fractures on my skull, and there is no internal bleeding. however, the frontal lobe was swollen. and i got a bad concussion.

TODAY:: alive....but thats about it...it hurts like you wouldnt beleive. tuesday i was not allowed to sleep because of my severe concussion. last night i was allowed to sleep but i had to be woken up every 30 minutes just to make sure i dont slip into a coma. tonight i will be able to sleep 1 hour before having to be woken up, and tomorrow night it will be 2 hrs. then saturday night is my prom, so there wont be any sleeping that night. and then i will have to be woken up again every 2 hrs on sunday night. if in that time i show no problems, then i can actually get a full nights sleep.

the hospital called today and said "upon further inspection of x-rays, we found 3 hairline fractures in your skull. however no surgery is required. in about 8 weeks the fractures should be closed."

this happened tuesday, and here are some pics of it:

holy fuck how did the hooks break?

I am not a "sue crazy" person, but your fucking gym is liable for faulty equipment. I would make them pay every fucking hospital bill plus some!!!!!!!!!!!

DAMN!! You're lucky you didn't get hurt worse man!
I'm with Stout on this one - your gym is majorly at fault here, you could have been killed if it had hit you a few inches lower!

wow man, sorry to hear that, glad your ok, could have been way worse

what did the gym owner or manager say when it happened?

That's terrible bro! What did your gym have to say about it's obviously unsafe equipment?

the gym said that it wasnt their fault and blamed it on the maker of the bench, they didnt show too much compassion for me either, they were more worried about the broken bench

sounds like pathetic management if you ask me, if I were you, I would have your dad go down there and tell them you expect all medical bills to be paid or they will be hearing from your lawyer

they might have blown you off because of your age. But I would not let them off the hook bro, it is their fault no matter what they say

Oh yeah, don't let that slide. If they maintained their equipment, no way, that would have happened. Hope you are doing ok.

I wouldnt even go threaten them just have a lawyer serve their ass. The total lack of compassion for the damage their shitty equiptment did would have been the kicker for me.

Holy shit, man . That's insane !!! That's like major lawsuit...make sure it hurts for looooooong time...more pain more money!
Hope you'll get better soon,bro ... just don't let anyone know ;)

something doesn't sound right Anti.. the gym owners should be freaking out. I would be lol. You have a case on your hands my friend, against the gym, and the bench manufacture. If everything happened like you said there is no reason why you shouldn't be a wealthy young man right now ;)

yes and I understand at 18 you ARE an adult but the gym manager/owner would be more apt to take your dad serious. It is not saying your not an adult bro........don't take it the wrong way
