For some reason I thought Crystal Light was made with splenda/sucralose and I have been drinking it instead of diet coke ( my first love and addiction) for the last year or so since Asparteme does weird things to my body. First of all it prevents me from going in to ketosis for sure, I have tested it over couple months I am positive it does it, but it is not that important since I am not on a keto diet or anything. Second thing is that it makes my appetite grow. I already have a very very health appetite, however if I eat lets say an 800 calorie dinner and consume 2 diet cokes one with the meal, one about an hour after the meal, I get really hungry in less than 2 hours after that meal. When I consume asparteme, I am constantly snacking on whatever I can find around the house. Not chocolate bars or anything, healty stuff like nuts, fruit etc.. but the calories still add up.

For the last couple months I was wondering why my appetite is still so big, allthough I consume almost no asparteme at all, then I look at the crystal light drink in my hand, ran to the pantry and looked at the label and saw that it was made with asparteme. I can swear to god that I am positive that somewhere I saw or read that it was not asparteme, but I guess I am day dreaming.

Anyways, tl;dr, I have been drinking about a gallon of crystal light flavored water a day for about a year. today is the first day with water only, I had a medium size dinner about 4 hours ago, had 2 small apples ( they are soo good right out of the fridge) and i am so full that I feel like I need to stop eating almost 5 hours prior to sleep time now. Last night I was chewing on almonds as I was trying to go to sleep..... what a dumbass...

Aspartame is just two amino acids not some chemical formulation. There is a ton of misinformation about aspartame circulating by shady characters.

Aspartame is a methyl ester of the dipeptide of the natural amino acids L-aspartic acid and L-phenylalanine.

Look lifts, I respect your knowledge on this subject immensly but I am telling you man. Personal experience, asparteme will absolutly not let me get in ketosis. I could eat atkins style 20grams a day and keto sticks wont show a damn thing allthough even clean urine would smell like ketones. I'll drop asparteme and in 2 days sticks turn purple..... Maybe asparteme prevents the sticks turnign from purple although I was in ketosis.

Same with appetite, 2 days off any beverage with asparteme in it and I feel great, I can eat humanly size portions and not feel insanyl hungry a couple hours later..
as you said maybe it is not that bad, but for me (placebo or not) it causes these symptoms.

the only thing that will prevent ketosis is having carbs to burn. Will your breath slightly resemble acetone?

Maybe your ketone sticks were bad? Aspertame won't prevent ketosis. Only to many carbs will.

I used 3 different kinds, all from amazon, sealed in packages within expiration dates.
I counted my net carbs religiously and was never over 20 for about a month. I was drinking a lot of caffeine and using lots of sweeteners. I first cut out the cafeeine, nothing happened, 3 days later I cut out asparteme, in less than 48 hours sticks started to turn blue, allthough I did not feel any different and the acetone smell in my urine did not get any stronger.

Again though it is not important since I am more concerned with the appetite issues than keto at this point. Appetite could be strictly in my own head, or it could have something to do with my taste buds and sweetness of asparteme, I am not sure.

My bet is that the hydration effect from the fluids may have caused ketones to be diluted. In other words, you'd still be in ketosis, but your urine ketone level would be diluted and not have the same effect on the ketosticks. I think Lyle McDonald mentioned something about this years ago.

It could be since I did have the acetone smell in my urine fairly strong. I was also hydrating like a mad man during that time, trying to make sure my kidneys get flushed properly.
