I've always been a big dude with decent lines but as I've gotten older, the lines in the midsection are rather BLURRRY haha. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise since even at 52, I usually eat what I want. Don't get me wrong, I have never been a sweet tooth, so rarely I eat cake, cookies, ice cream, etc. However, 2 or 3x ew I do eat pizza, burgers, fries, etc. Also I regularly eat alot of carbs - rice or potatoes with every meal.

Sooo, my plan is to stop the cheat days, drop carbs to minimal, and just replace the rice & potatoes with broccoli, asparagus, spinach & leafy salads. Only carbs I get will be from oatmeal (40g) with breakfast and post w.o drink (30g). I'm also adding in 15-20 mins of treadmill after workouts - this will be the first time I've done regular cardio in many years. Fats will be just from omega 3's & virgin olive oil - and of course from eggs, steak, lean beef, chicken. That's it - that's the plan. Hoping to bring these "faded" abs into clear within a month. Sound reasonable?

I should add that I also get fats from snacking on unsalted peanuts too. I've been on this regimen for the last 3 days and notice I DO feel hungry at times from the dramatic drop in carbs (from like 350-400g to 70g daily), so peanuts help fill the void. Also drinking much more water to curb the hunger.

You won't get good abs eating to many peanuts bro. Very high fat and high calorie.

Yeh drop the peanuts... And suck up the hunger pains for the first week and then everything gets easier by the third week you won't even want any of the foods u were once craving

With your genetics cutting one carb meal and you will look like a god...I'm serious youre a freak of nature especially at 52

My thinking is to get additional cals in from healthy fats since they are so low, and also help slightly offset the approximate drop of 1200 cals ed in carbs. What pro/carb/fat ratio did you go with when you recently dropped your cals substantially to lose that weight dude?

I WISH amigo! I'm just the hardest worker in the gym - time to have that same discipline with my diet.

Keep us posted on your progress. I know when I dropped carbs, my energy went to shit after about a month, good luck!!

It's hard to go that low on carbs especially if you work. You'll get tired and lethargic. Also your muscles will get flat. I would just reduce calories with a more sustainable diet.
Funny. I can't believe I'm giving you diet advice. But over 50 you're looking at long term fixes, not short term change, right?

I just recently dropped all my carbs and then had a low carb diet Like urself .... I was on juice to help keep my muscle but it worked amazing and I got a six pack but the first three weeks are really hard then after that it becomes easy and then I tapered up my calories and carbs I'm up to 3000 cals a day now and still maintaining the six pack even off the juice... So the moral of the story is suck it up it will be hell for a abit but it will pay off

Since late 40's, I really have to mind what I shove in my maw. Especially now in my 50's my parents typeII is no longer lurking and simple carbs or carbs and fats mixed will see the shadow of my ass gaining 60lbs overnight.

To remedy, I go old school Gironda Steak and Eggs 4.5 days with a complex carb meal the evening of the 5th day, then repeat. many will go a full 5 days, with the 6th day being pretty open to whatever you wish to eat, the 7th day being reserved for fruits and veggies with your protein, then start the process over again.

I have found this to keep the lines from getting "blurry" and I really don't have to chase macros so hard.

Buf if I had a hard/physical job like I did for decades before, then yeah I couldn't drop carbs so low no way. But my job is cake now, so no problemo there. I'm gonna stick with this plan for a month since it's only been 4 days now and the pants fit looser around the waist and I've dropped from 257 to 250 in that short time. Obviously alot of that is water weight too, but the bloat is much less and wow amazing how much less farting goes on without all those carbs haha. And yeah being flat is all part of it but it's only temporary.

@Joe - Thanks for the input dude. Trust me I'm aware of "sticking it out" & being disciplined - I've dieted much more strict than this before when competing, however that's been around 20 years ago haha.

@Mondo - Thanks also bro. But let me ask, in your 50's, don't you feel it would be healthier to also get some veggies in for overall health factor, like what I mentioned above, ie salad, broccoli, spinach, etc? I dunno I just feel steak & eggs only on a regualr basis wouldn't be very healthy for the digestive tract.

Man I do iifym dieting and I am in the best shape I have ever been in except when I just ate chicken, rice, broccoli etc. I did the typical bodybuilder diets and while they did work great I was miserable. With this diet I eat a wide range of foods and I do mean a wide range. I eat ice cream every night or some kind of treat and I have a cheat meal every week. I do about 25 min of cardio on the treadmill every day after training(walking at incline of 10 @2.5-3mph). Everything I eat I weigh and track in my phone so I make sure I hit my macros. Current cutting cals are 2400@ day 200g carbs, 240g protein, 80g fat. As long as I hit all my numbers in good. Now mind you I eat 80-90 percent "clean" through the day but this is legitimately the best diet system I've been on to yield longer results.

Cool deal bro. I've known some bros who did iifym and they abused it as many do - eating tons of junk. Good you know how to work it.

Yeah its all about holding yourself accountable. Even levrone is doing it to prep.
