Hey guys sorry haven't been on in a while been started a new job and was hit with Afib . So needless to say anyone else have dealt with Afib?
I have atrial fibulation and also atrial flutter. Normally these conditions are associated with a rapid heartbeat, but my pulse (actual timing between actual heartbeats) is typically very slow. So far they are dealing with it by a drug called Eliquis, an anti-coagulant, because I guess there is danger of clotting taking place in the heart in the area of the flutter.
The biggest downside I find with the Eliquis is that I get more swelling and pip at injection sites because my blood just doesn't clot normally now.
If the fibulation/flutter doesn't get better the next step is another defibulation shock, to shock my heart back into rhythm, which I had in January. When/if the electro-shock fails, then the next step is ablasion surgery, and then if that doesn't work, a pacemaker.
Honestly, I was completely unaware I had the condition till I dropped dead. The heart can get stuck in a flutter and effectively just stop beating. It's called sudden cardiac death. You better hope someone is around to call an ambulance.
Biggest issue i had with the anticoagulant drugs is they give me massive muscle spasms and make me so dizzy i can barely walk and when i discontinue the drugs all these sides go away. Dr's say i must be one of the 3% that get these sides
I have had to deal with A-fib for a few years now. I have proximal a-fib so I only have it 2-3 times a year and it last 3-4 hours. I take Eliquis and a good stiff dose of metoprolol to keep it all in check.
That sucks Kubes. My cardiologist just sent me to do a Cardiac PET/CT - Lexiscan. Thank goodness the results came back negative for ischemia with sufficient coronary flow reserve. Systolic function is within normal limits. At least there is no damage. I have to take 75mg of metoprolol 2 times a day to prevent any tachycardia. So I have a resting HR of about 52bpm. Like a fucking distance runner, drops to about 45-48 during sleep.
Is there anything that can be done with your case?
I can either do the ablation or probably just leave it. I do not get any symptoms from it. Like i said mine is controlled i do not even know its there cause my ventricle beat is totally normal. My pulse is rarely over 80 so drugs wont do anything. The drugs are to lower the ventricle rate and i do not need that. So with that said it will take a lot tomorrow to convince me that i need to waste more money on procedure but we will see. i am open to listening to what he has to say. if you take there anticoagulants you cannot take aspirin or any ibuprofen either.
Not at all familiar with this type of a-fib. As long as your doctor says there is no danger of cardiac blood clots I guess you are good and just go with what he tells you. Yea, I take 5mg of Eliquis 2 times a day. No aspirin but I do take NSAIDs daily. The only symptoms I get are the fluttering heart feeling when I do get the a-fib. Kind of worrisome but I still go about my life when it happens.
No my doctor gets really mad and says i have to take Eliquis or Xarelto cause i am at risk of blood clots or heart attack and i just told him i will take my chances. I cant handle the side effects and the drugs ruin my quality of life literally.
I started taking Eliquis after I went to two cardiologists and a vein specialist over pain and swelling in my lower leg and thigh. The cardiologist had no clue and the vein specialist immediately did a ultrasound and discovered I had a nice size DVT. He was terrified and put me on the Eliquis immediately. I had the swelling for maybe 3 weeks and never stopped hitting the weights. He told me he was surprised the clot didn't break off and cause a PE and put me in the hospital. It was supposed to be a 3-6 week treatment until they discovered a-fit now it is life time. They only thing I see with it is I get bruises from always running into shit and never know what it was there. I also have to tell the people who I do blood work. When I had surgery i May I had to stop them for 2 days. But thinking about how the blood could clot in the heart and cause a stroke is kind of scary. My doctor did say there were a couple of medication that would completely control a-fib but he said the side effects are not so good. He also mentioned the ablation. Let us know how the new meds workout.
New dr is scheduling an ablation but prescribing a couple drugs to try first and said 50 percent chance the drugs will stop the afib. cant remember the names but its worth a try

thanks brother , they were asking me about a life vest I guess it can shock you if you go into afib but i don't know what route to take
I had a life vest for a while. They are a major pain. The idea that if you go into afib it will give you a MASSIVE shock will keep you from ever being able to relax once its on. And you have to go through activation/ de-activation steps when you put it on or take it off or else it can read that your heart has stopped while taking off the vest (or a loose fit) and give you a shock then too.
I got the feeling it was just a way to sell/rent folks a very expensive device to bill to insurance. I bet that if your insurance company says it wont cover the vest, your doctor will suddenly say that you dont need it.
Dr put me on Fecainade 100 mg 2 x ed and Metoprolol 12.5 mg 2 x ed and it seems to be working
brother that is good news ! I hope it does ! i hate dealing with it
I haven't felt this good in a very long time. Cardiologist wants me to go in for checkups every 90 days. Hopefully the meds keep working. I really do not want an ablation. I do not read many long term good reviews on it
i have afib my dr took me off Eliquis also off Xarelto the blood thinners had me p;issing blood .. on digoxin and diltazium with 2 bp; meds a 24 and a 12hr one ...only other side effect i have is hurting joints as it effect s calcium
