The 9th grade faculty at my school are playing a game of flag football, one hall against another this Friday, and then against the faculty of another inner city school next Tuesday.
I don't want to play and I feel like a wus, but I'm not into it, here's why: 7 years ago I completely rotated my ankle in a volleyball game and got a longitudinal tear in my brevis tendon. That's the tendon that runs from the outside of the knee over the ankle and up over all the metatarsal foot bones. I also fractured my talus. I have had problems ever since. My one toe keeps dislocating and I have trouble walking, plus lately my knees have been giving me trouble.
Also, I know how older people play sports, like they're trying to prove what they never had the chance to in high school. I'm 51 and like to lift weights, but as you know, lifting can be effective because one trains on a specific line, whereas in foolball just about anything can happen. Plus, at 51, do I really need to be out playing football? I would have to wrap my ankle very well.
Two years ago during a "friendly" faculty basketball game a 20-something teacher broke his leg.
On another note, the faculty have not made me a part of their group and even though I have been here 6 years, basically I just don't give a shit, but still it bothers me about the game and opting out. BTW, the wife said, "Forget it!" (But I don't just want to blame it on her either.)
What to do?
Am I being unreasonable?
