ok those that know me know i live off ice cream and am trying to learn "real" food and how to cook.(Kit Kat..lol)

so i bought this new item today.. i wanted sweet potatoes/yams and they were out. they had this purple yam shaped thing instead.
so i bought two, i cooked em white inside, very tasty actually but no clue what it is called or the nutrients. i sure hope it isnt like a white potatoe.

it was where the yams go next to potatoes and has purple outside that flakes off, white inside.

any one know???????????

no sign.. it was where theyams go. i just put same code as a yam. self check out

It may have been an Ube which is Philipino for purple yam. Or is could have just been a funny looking Yam.

A piece of cake made with ubeUbe (or ubi) is the Filipino word for purple yam (Dioscorea alata). It contains pigments that gives its violet color. In India, this vegetable is known as ratalu or violet yam or the Moraga Surprise. In other parts of the Malay world, the word ubi refers to any yam or tuber. In Tonga: ʻufi (and is considered there as a royal food), in Hawaiʻi: uhi, in Tahiti: ufi. In the Philippines, ube is cooked with sugar and eaten as a sweetened dessert or jam called ube halaya which is a bright violet color. Ube is also an ingredient in the fruity dessert halo halo, another popular Filipino dessert.

In botany, this species is also known by the names "water yam" and "winged yam."
