I'm planning on getting a new car .... I was looking through dealerships and what not and I always have higher end tastes wanted something sporty/luxury but decided maybe just to get something more cost effective and reliable and get a separate toy on the side. So growing up my favourite old cars were corvette's so I'm going to buy one from the 1970-1980's and do it up a bit not like a restore just all new shit on the inside as my toy sorta knock having the old school corvette off my bucket list.... so now here's where I need help I'm not car smart I don't know cars so what type of things should I expect while doing this or are there any sites u know of that could guide me. And is there any particular year of corvette that u absolutely love that I should definitely take a look at

Absolutely a car junkie right here.
I just replaced my 911 because I let my friend drive it and he lost control of it and evaporated it. Now I've replaced that with an Audi A8L with the 4.2.

I used to have an automotive/lifestyle forum with over 15k members. I had my fair share of Vette guys.

The biggest issue with Vettes in that timeframe is that there were a lot of faults when it comes to electrical issues as they relate to things like raising and lowering the head lights and windows. Upgrade those things, along with the wiring that goes with them, and you should be in great shape. You would also do well to upgrade the suspension components. Otherwise, it is not the greatest handling of cars.

Ok thanks for the input I have to do a lot of research cause I'm lost when it comes to it but this is what I want so I'm going to make it happen

I've had a couple of vettes. First a 79 stingray. Then a 76 mako. Very rough riding but so much fun to drive. Expensive upkeep, especially as they get older. I've got a mustang gt now. '98 with the 4.9L V-8 engine.
Not near the expense or the fun. But it runs. Was doing 120 on the way to work this morning and taching only 3 grand. Lots of pedal left.

I was thinking of getting the 77 vette if I also wanted to upgrade/replace the engine which engine would u recommend best bang for my buck

I love some of those old vetttes and stangs. Even the sting ray I have an eye for.

Option as well. You can get a good 06-12 vette. I liked the looks of those years. I like the idea of buying a vintage but most don't take care of there shit and next you know you're doing everythinf

I bought a '91 Vette in '05. Mint conditon with only 49k on it - got a great deal from a co-worker. Had it for 1 year. Drove it up to OH from VA on vacation. Second night there, I was awakened at 5AM by the police & fire dept - the car was on fire which was parked out on the street in front of my moms house. I went outside and was like WTF! Bitch was ablaze - much of the engine literally melted down. After investigating, they deemed it was an electrical fire that wasn't uncommon on that year of Vette. Talk about a bummer bigtime! Had to get a rental to go back down to VA, then wait & negotiate with the insurance company for 3 months to get the $$$ bcoz they was trying to jerk me around on price. That's my Vette story. :( :wallbash:

What a story I'd be pissed if that happened to me....I'm trying to put together a general idea of how much it's going to cost me to do it up proper once I buy it... so I'm in the process of calling a few people if it's going to be too much money then I'm not going to do it

A cheap high performance crate motor for it will run you about 7k. Then there's installation and all that goes with that.

Yeh my budget is around 30k on top of what I spend on the actual car. I want to it be high proformance but also street legal. The isssue is don't know a lot about cars so I've been trying to do research and what not
