Arnold had no legs

I believe had Arnold thought he needed bigger quads to win, he would have developed them.

i remember reading that he took a fall of a poorly devised platform at a posing exhibition and blew out his knee somewhere in the mid 70s. After that his leg training was more limited. Some of the photos around 74 he had really grat legs for the era.

I remember when I was 16 and seeing his pics in Muscle Builder mag, his legs were in a different world than the other guys. He had those quads with detailed separation from the knee all the way up to his pelvis. You rarely see upper quad separation that good even to this day.

With the exception of tom platz most of the og's had smaller legs. I think they were more concerned with proportion than just sheer mass.

If memory serves it happened in Australia guest posing in '73 - after he won the O. His leg was in a cast for 3 months I believe. Never heard that the injury inhibited his leg training after recovery though - didn't appear so based on how he looked in '74.
