So my trainer insisted on me trying out barbell good mornings about 4 weeks ago, I have only done them once before and if i did anything it would be on the good morning bodyweight stand thingy you rest against. These always gave me one hella back pump and never felt good. I compete in powerlifting and pull mid 700s, so i figured good mornings should be easy, started with the bar and moved to 90lbs. on the 90lb set my back got real tight and pumped feeling, stopped and went onto competition bench ( I got a big arch). Well my arch felt like crap and had a horrible workout. the next day i woke up and could barely stand up and major fire in my lower back when moving around. Went to Chiropractor and got x-rays, turns out i had a bulging disk, not herniated.

I've been getting adjusted and such ever since. I am back to doing normal activities but every morning i wake up with a tight lower back. also in the mornings after a light workout the pain kinda shows back up very slightly on the left side deep in the middle of my body, more like the front of the spine where that muscle that goes over your leg connects (idk the name). But it fades as the day goes on.

How long could it take for me to get back to normal? I am stayign real protective of my back in the gym and continuing getting adjusted. I have a few meets coming up (feb-march ish) that I'd like to compete in.

Every injury varies in time it takes to heal from person to person. Make sure to stretch your hamstrings daily, tight hams can aggravate or even cause a low back injury.

Lifts hit it on the head, hammies like noodles will be your best friend to make a fast recovery. Which is hard cuz all that shit is connected and your hammies like to tighten up with this injury, especially on one side. I've lived through this and never did recover 100%, kinda slide back to 90% every now and then and have to take it easy.

I would also warn you about training around it! If you get real strong on the front (legs and upperbody) and weaker in the back, the problem will get worse and worse. Use your head and make sure your're not killing it on other lifts.

Awesome, Thank you for the advice, I have always had real tight hammies, ill work on loosening them up

GP...see a good chiropractor. They can't repair a ruptured disk, but bulging disks are a chiro's stock in trade. I had a painful bulging disk 20 years ago and went to a chiropractor despite warnings from my doctor and the best orthopaedic surgeon in town. I was fixed in one visit! ;)

I have been going to a chiropractor now once a week since my initial visit, it seems like its healed quite a bit, able to workout fine, muscles seem real tight around the lower back still, not really painful, seems like the pain is moving up my spine though, like my middle back feels akward now. not horrible or anything, just twinged feeling, i know in my xrays the disk was kind of turned clockwise slighty, like it bulged more on the left side. maybe while it was bulged, everything kind of shifted and now is resettling? IDk.. lol, did deadlifts the other day and they felt great, pulled 585 for 2 sets of 6 easy cake..

Hes doing the shock thing while on a folding type bench thing, that bends at the waist and straightens out over n over, then does some massaging of the lower back with pressure, and then some adjustments.

today my back feels great, no tightness or pain anywhere lol

Yep, tight hamstrings are the number one cause of lower back pain.
