Man, sometimes I just dream about what it would be like to just take off and explore the country. I feel there is so much to experience, but I'm just stuck, because I have a business to run, a house to pay for, etc. I have a pretty sweet camper, and I'm actually gonna build one of those tiny houses, on a spare trailer I have, and now that I'm doing that, I really just wanna go, but have no idea how I would make an income. I don't have anyone responsible enough to run my business for me, and I don't want to just give it up. Whenever we vacation it's never more than a week, if hardly even a week. Very rarely do we actually go away for a full week, and I mean like every few years. So sometimes I just want to pack up and take off. I wonder what it would take financially to travel the country for 6 months. With all the negative stuff going on in the world today, I just need an escape into the wilderness, and enjoy what's out there. That's how I feel.

6 years I retire. Then if we're physically and mentally able we're loading up the Harley and taking off.

i spent 3 months in Italy a few years ago. I worked there though but still. It cost about 12K if it was to come out of my pocket. I used airbnb and rented a place for about 60 bucks a night. I traveled all over Italy and made a lot of friends and learned the language. I figured Out a way to do it with work so while I didn't kill myself there I had a lot of freedom. I did it again for 2 week stints since then. One of those times I west in the middle of a historic storm in the north around Luca.Every time i went away I ran my group by skype having meetings twice a week.

You can do the same thin in the US probably cheaper with your camper.

I have 24 more years of work left after that God willing I'm gonna see the stuff I want to see...

We all do... kids wives work all have there stresses... as you age the responsibilities build up, you feel trapped sometimes....

For me I dream of ocean fishing in the tropics.......

Yea, I'd love to take a trip around the States and see everything...will not be for awhile at this point. I think a camper or motorhome is the way to go.

My dad just told me yesterday that I'm young (55 young? ok dad :) ), single and should just pack up my H-D and take off. I said yes i should but I got bills and shit plus this job thing with $200M in construction going on, blah blah. Then he told me how he likes taking his bike to Michigan all by himself to a NASCAR race every August. Then he said f-it before its too late and you get old just go and have fun. I love my dad!

I can retire now but I take a $2k a month on the retirement hit by doing it instead of in 2019. I am looking at leaving here though and finding another job where there are palm trees and sunshine so I can have my weekends to live free.

As soon as I can reasonably retire I'm out. I have a plan to do it at 55. It might just work. I'll be hard to find when this happens

Absolutely.
Especially in the past year.
Mostly because, people... The world ain't getting any better, nor are the people in it.

So yea, the thoughts of going off the grid is extraordinarily tantalizing.
