Yesterday I called downtown to find out where I am to report in the Fall for my teaching assignment. I had a fight with a student 3 weeks ago and was told the school Principal filed charges.
"What charges," I asked?
"You'll have to call the school to find out."
So I called the Principal and was told, "Mr. _________, it's just a technicality, as soon as the paperwork goes through to have the student transferred to an alternative disciplinary school, the charges will be dropped."
Then she said, "You got a satisfactory rating for the school year and you're welcome to return in the Fall or whenever you are released from the Doctor."
I couldn't believe it, I was sure I would be railroaded in this.
I asked, "How was this determination made?"
She said, "The student admitted to everything, and other students had video to support your story, it's a done deal, she's out!"
Wow, I'm almost speachless.
Of course I'll go back. Even though there are some knuckleheads, I like the challenge of working there. It keeps me on edge, it also pushes me constantly to try things to be an effective teacher. Besides, I'm popular with most of the students and it took years to build their confidence.
Everything's looking good.
Now if I could just get away with rehabbing my shoulder without having to get surgery it will be great.
I'm getting workman's comp in the mean time but with it I'm loosing over $900/week in salary.
If that's not an incentive to get back to work I don't know what is.
