I've had a strong interest in the survivalist train of thought for a long time. I live in the largest canadian hub. over 7 million people within 80 miles. theres over a hundred thousand desolate forest square miles north of me. if things got bad, I could hit my caches, find suitable water, hunting and fishing grounds, available shelter etc. my first concern should be winter, as 6 months of the year IS often -22 farenheit. but fire, shelter and food is already covered what worries me more is protection. in canada, we dont have gun laws even remotely similar to america. to own a firearm you need a fire arms certificate. which takes some school training to receive. than if you want to legally store a gun you have to have a locked gun locker in your home AND register the gun in the national gun registry. soon as you do that, your at a extreme high risk of robbery as these names AND addresses are public domain. so thugs consistently do home invasions, its almost a guarantee to get robbed if you live in a urban area or even remotely urban area. than you could choose to protect your house and family but again, in canadian law the rules are very different. if someone breaks into your home and you shoot and kill that person your deffinitly up on murder charges, a self defense plea is almost impossible unless that person physically marked or harmed you first causing you to take action. so owning a gun leaves you a target of home invasion slash robbery, self defense leaves you a murderer. I can live without a gun because I'm canadian, we dont have high crime and dont really need guns to get around at all BUT in a survivalist situation, you gotta think. there are people with guns, they are roaming and looking for food, shelter and gear. what would you do? what would you do if you needed to protect yourself possibly against armed people and guns wernt available? again most would say get a gun license, aquire a gun and keep it secret but in canada, an unregistered gun carries such a heavy sentence you might as well give up any idea of a sustainable life having one. I just know when the shit goes down, there out theyre, I'm without one and I probably cant afford one, even in tough times with trade as the common commodity. guns would become more valuable than cars to a nation 95% without guns. also in canada you can only own rifles and shot guns, no hand guns, semis or full auto's. unless you have another permit and good luck getting that unless your ex military or police. so if you can actually absorb and imagine all that. what would you do in a survivalist situation??
