Gun ownership question

I just went to get my first gun. All went well with the check except it was flagged for 'delay'. The shop owner said that NICS never tells them the reason for a delayed check. Under Ohio Law, only people convicted of a felony, use or sale of drugs, or a fugitive from the law are disqualified from gun ownership.

The only thing on my record is a disorderly conduct charge from more than four years ago for getting in a fight. My question is, would that have an impact on my gun ownership rights? It was only a $200 fine. Also under Ohio law, if you have a misdemeanor it is supposed to only matter if it occurred within three years of the purchasing time.

So does anybody here know whether an M1 misdemeanor will negate me from owning a gun? According to law it shouldn't, I just don't know why NICS delayed my background check

every state is so different . in my state lots of guys get the same delay and 3-4 days later are cleared to buy their gun but i just walked in and bought my guns/pistols with only a hour or so wait before i was cleared.

Yeah I called back after work today and he said I should be all good given my background. They've got 5 days to get back to me or else I can just walk in and pick it up. So now it's a matter of waiting

At least you dont live in the anti gun state of MA like I do. It takes FOREVER...

cali you have a 14 day wait....but only felonies should prevent you to gun buying

A few other things that might prevent you from buying a firearm:

A restraining order
Any domestic abuse of a spouse
Dishonorable discharge from US military
Any drug charge

Although things differ from state to state

WHat type of gun were you going to buy/getting?

Springfield armory XD .45

Background check came through just fine on christmas eve, problem is I'm now over 100 miles away from the shop lol. So I'm picking it up on Monday when I'm back in town

sweet piece bro , congrats.

cool, .45's are the shit, just watch for the kickback
and rent yourself a "Dirty Harry," movie while you're at it.

The XD is a nice piece, however you might want to consider a Glock if you want a high capacity 45acp.

Springfield does not sell aftermarket parts for their pistols. You are almost obligated to ship the piece back to springfield if you need any work done on it at all.

Glocks are also a superior weapon in my opinion.

Dirty Harry carried a S&W model 29 .44 magnum revolver. It is a tad smaller in diameter than the .45acp but due to the larger capacity of the case it packs a lot more punch.

I stand corrected, OK, how about this one:
George C. Scott's pearl handled .45 in the movie "Patton."
He tried to shoot down a plane with it!

Yeah that's what I've heard, it's just that I've shot the XD and liked it a lot. I'll rent a glock or two one day and see how they feel.
