Got done with legs and crawled away.

We did a total 186 reps in the workout.

6 of the exercises (all were some form of squat) were for 6 reps with 1/4 stops

3 of the exercises were for 50 regular reps (again all squats)

Remind me what the result is physiologically from this kind of shock treatment?

I know shocking the body causes growth...but what's behind that?

DOMS= delayed onset muscular syndrome (I think, but after all those reps you will definately know what it hit by tomorrow).

delayed onset muscle soreness.. it usually hits in 1-3 days (everyones body is diff) due to lingering lactic acid deposits

called overtraining...lol

Yes it would appear so.

But this is a once in a blue moon workout.

The usual is very difficult also but my experience has been good solid growth since I started training legs with this person in August.

He really knows his stuff.

Im just wondering about what in the body is triggered by doing a very high rep workout like this.

There is actual damage to the muscle fibers. the Z-bands in the muscle, or muscle fibers, become damaged along with the surrounding connective tissues. Damage releases components of the muscle tissue which triggers an inflammation response that sends immune cells to the damaged area for clean=up and additional signaling. These in turn release more cytokines that direct more immune cells such as dendritic called and NKT cells to the area to remove the damaged components. concurrently the tissue regenerates to rebuild the tissue and guard it from damage from subsequent bouts of the activity that caused the damage in the first place. The damaged cellular components and cytokins and ensuing tissue swelling and inflammation signal the nociceptor in the area to send pain signals to the brain which is meant to stop you from causing additional trauma as the repair is being performed.

Thats exactly what I was looking for. This is the first time we've ever done anything like this. I presume it was to shake things up. The master would have known but I was too delirious after to think to ask.

Thanks Glyco.

Some chicks do to but they are usually a little odd. They're OK but the big black ones that stare at me deliciously on the bus scare me a little.

Yea.... the ones that stare at me and smile as I put in a big chew concern me the most.

Oh, so that's why I can't straighten my arm!
