I think the 'code of silence' applied particularly to the (Italian/Sicilian) Mafia. I remember that, prior to Joe Valachi, the wall of silence was almost impenetrable. (The only reason Valachi turned informant was because the mob promised to take care of his family while he was inside, and they reneged on their promise. )

Most people tend to forget that police are master manipulators. They're trained to size up people, and home in on their weaknesses. Presumably these guys had a need to be liked/accepted, so the cops became their new best buddies. (In private, cops hate informants, even though they depend on them.)

Lol i like them both....They tried to flip me when i got busted and i told them to fuck themselves and got 9 months in Phila county jail,which is TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!
