I've always admired Tom Prince for his good common sense and the fact he shoots straight from the hip. And it's hard not to respect someone who does incline curls with 90 lb dumbbells and strict form.

Anyway, Tom says....

"I'm going to cut right to it. Here's EXACTLY, word for word, what it takes for anyone to turn pro:

1. Genetics
2. Busting your ass in the gym
3. Knowing how to eat alot of good food
4. Knowing what it means to "rest"
5. 12-15 YEARS of being consistent, and never missing a scheduled workout (*note: you are allowed to miss 2-3 workouts in that 12-15 years for funerals, family tragedy, etc.)

NOW.. here's how 1-5 plays out: Your GENETICS, you are born with, and can do nothing about. Numbers 2,3,4, I could teach a retarded monkey with a brain amputation.

And #5.. is why 99.99999% of the people fail.. and fall dead on their ass.

Notice it doesn't say "gear" or "steroids" in there at all. If you are one of those people that walks around saying "he's just big because he's on tons of shit!," then you will NEVER make it. NEVER!!

Steroids, GH, gear.. is the ultimate weak minded pussies excuse. Because, if it's GEAR, they never have to admit they aren't good enough. These people come up with an abstract excuse that no one can exacty pin point (how much, exactly is "tons of shit?"), and that way they don't have to admit they just ain't got it.

Notice the only thing you never hear someone say is: "I'm just not good enough?"

I have seen people with bad genetics with non-workout missing level of discipline do much better than people with good genetics that have no discipline.

I would say genetics probably play a role at the top of the competition and without them it may be almost impossible to be the best of the best in the world, but defiantly not required for turning pro.

It is the same with everything, very talented fighters who party all the time lose to non-athlete type hard working fighters all the time, they lose their belts, they get kicked out of their promotion due to their laziness.

In colleges if you work hard enough, no matter how-untalented you are you can still get a phd in any subject you want, you can become a research scientist, write books and papers for scientific journals. However if you say, oh I am gonna dethrone Stephan Hawking and become the best theoretical physicist in the world, then you will probably need a solid brain with short neuro-distances which create learning paths very quickly, basically very smart, high IQ, born with it type...

Uhmmmm...lets get real. Ya Tom is to be respected, and most if his post is very true. But to leave out GEAR is just fucking insane.lol Get real. Show me a nigga winnin' pro shows natty. Please. Tell it to the pros on the Arnold or O stage. He is 100% right about the bitches that whine about others being big only coz roids of course. It IS damn hard work for many years and genetics - we knowthat. BUT, lets not act fucking blind ok? Remember the context of the thread - How to be an IFBB Pro Bodybuilder! Perhaps he intended this thread for the n00b thats only been pumping iron for a few years, doesn't grow and cries about others being big coz gear...I dunno.lol

Persian you're alive!lol :igok: Damn brah I thought you got busted for having your sis backipackin' all that sust from Iran! :p

LI, Mr Inc...I agree with most of his post and his message of how "roids is not a miracle answer" per se. I - along with you guys - have also preached that for years to the typical dumbasses.

HOWEVER, this thread IS about being an IFBB pro and his message ALSO indicates that roids are NOT needed to do so. He states "Here's EXACTLY, word for word, what it takes for anyone to turn pro:", then later adds "Notice it doesn't say 'gear' or 'steroids' in there at all". Is there anyway that can be misconstrued fellas?? Is it just me?lol :p

Having said that, please list the IFBB pros that are indeed NATTY or whom you believe to be natty.lol I await the list. :D

Hank, you are dead right. I'm pretty sure this article was written after he got tired of arguing with dumbass teenagers at BB.com. Tom probably would not have been written it with quite the same slant if he had written it for a more mature crowd.

I remember Lee Priest telling those kids that they don't have a clue and that the typical guy on the boards combines more steroids in his "laundry list" cycles than most pros. Lee said his best gains were made on just Test and deca, and if they wanted to add 10 more compounds they were throwing good money after bad. :D

BTW....the teens flamed Lee so bad he left that board.

I can understand why he omitted the juice issue,
I mean think about it, how many times have each of us been in great shape only to have someone blame it on steroids?
Maybe we were on them, but were busting out asses none-the-less, so is it the juice and then the pump?
Or the pump and then the juice?
Which came first?

For some, it's juice first, but then they are usually noobs.
For others, myself included, it was the pump and then the juice.
Didn't try them until I was 27, and by then I could squat 375, bench 260, and deadlift 390
at a body weight of 170.
I'm sure some of our vets came from the same boat...."You Viking hoards you(s)!"

Certainly makes sense now brutha! :)

Gosh, I saw Tom at a NPC show in SoCal a few years back, he weighed about 180 and was dressed like a skater kid or something. Kamali and Titus are perfect examples of IFBB pro's that made pro status with fairly bad genetics. You can get your pro card without genetics but you won't go very far.

I guess Kevin Levrone didn't follow Tom's plan.....

I think Genetics is by far #1 and the knowledge of which gear and how much you need is number 2....also the right contest prep is key that takes years to master and some never get it down....

why didnt kevin follow toms plan? what do you mean by this?

Kevin would only workout 6-8months out of the year, if that. He was known to take months off. Dude had superior genetics but lacked the drive. If he had the drive and dedication of a Yates or Coleman, he would have been a Mr. O in his time, I firmly believe that and so does most of the BB community.

Fosho. Imagine the "regulars" during that time period...the guys that always placed in the top 10. You KNOW they had to be hatin' it that Kev could pull off consistently high placings by only "part timing" it.lol :D
