I think I've found my niche for Spring Training; lunges. I started doing sets of 20 with 95 in December 2012. Today I shattered that by putting up 250 for 16 reps on my 6th set. Sweet! My quads have surpassed their former glory and now are full and thick again. Hell, I just set the goal of doing 200 for 6 by the end of the summer, this is great. I might get 315 by then and would like to try! Lunges are great after chest day as they help stretch my ribcage. I always do straight-legged dealifts between sets of lunges. This really helps keep my hamstrings stretched and also helps remove the tingling from my hands. I get that by holding the bar onto my shoulders during the sets. With my sloped traps, the bar keeps sliding off the back. No time for injuries right now, balance is key to my training! I weigh 225. Moving on!

Fuckin' eh good job dude! Thats some damn good weight for lunges. I'm sure you will see alot more growth compared to doing endless sets with light weights like before. Keep it up. :igok:

Man I am sore as dirt today. Everything is hurting, fingers forearms to my toes. Good push! A week's hard work coupled with a shot over the top with the lunges and straight-leg deadlifts. Yeah, this kind of pain is good, and it Feels Great! I can't believe I did that so easily.

Yeah but don't it feel so good!!?

Lately, gettin' better ev'ry day...ya'know, the pain-growth-eat-rest cycle, way better... I discovered leisure...

Honestly I don't know why you're so surprised at getting that dude. You had been doing 185 x 10 for 6 sets which suggests, as I told you before, is very easy weight for you considering you could still get it for 10 reps even on the 6th set. You coulda did the 250 x 8 (you say 16, but I know you count each leg which is misleading, which is actually 8 reps) before had you even tried without all those damn warmup sets. You say you've been in the game for 30+ years, so you should know all this like 2 + 2 by now. :)

I like at least 4 warm-up sets for my knees. If sacrificing a knee is what will take me over the top then i'm not interested. I'm aware of my past injuries and agrevating conditions. I could go higher and will, but for now I am catering to the weak points in the exercise, they being whatever is keeping the weight down. I am wracked with inuries as it is. One goes down in the middle of a lunge with 250 and it will draw attention (to say the least). In 30 years, especially when I can taste something really good, I learned the benefits of patience. My plan is to not go over 225 for the next 3 weeks, then attempt 275 for, say, 8 reps (each leg). Other areas also need attention, especially my lower pecs!
