Also I read somewhere not to take it with other meds but my Dr didnt say anything about this and he knows im on other meds like pety pain meds and anixety meds right now.

good to see ya posting fred... i take it everything is going ok with you bro??

I sure do...I love the stuff...I've got a great nutritionist that know so much about supps our conversations are at least an hour long each phone call. I don't answer his phone calls unless I've got some time. (Usualy on weekends we I got free cell minutes haha)

So in addition to my multi he's got me taking Magnesium, Calcium, Zinc, Potassium, Copper, Iron, Phosphorus, Chromium, Vanadium, ALA, Milk Thistle, CLA, Vit E....I think thats it. Even after all that shit in me I got my blood work back and the only thing that was high was my Iron levels....don't know if the shit is being used 100% or being passed through my system...but I can tell you I feel GREAT!!

how much mag does e have you taking bro?

Tapout, cut the iron, too much iron will make you ill! Bacteria & viruses can't survive without iron so if you're not hammering it, it'll help your immune system.

Read the book by Dr Michael Colgan - advanced sports nutrition.

Magnesium works best in conjunction with Calcium in a 1:1 ratio. I try to get at least a gram or more of each daily in addition to what I get in food.

John, we should look into this ratio.
Years ago I got a kidney stone, 1985.
I was lifting heavy and took 3 grm of calcium per week, two multimineral tabs a day, and stopped eating corn for two months.

After getting out of the hospital I tried to learn everything about calcium I could so as to not get any more kidney stones.

In the book, "Life Extension," By Dirk Pearson and Sandy Shaw, it was suggested that the ideal ratio of calcium to magnesium was 1: to .5, or 500 mg magnesium for every 1000mg of calcium. The reason is because with this ratio, calcium will remain soluable and not calcify (or harden).

Oh, by the way, I found corn to be one of the most prevelent sources of dietary magnesium from food.

The 1:2 ratio is outdated thinking as current research shows more magnesium is needed than previously believed. The type of calcium is important, as limestone, oyster shell and gluconate forms are not easily broken down and absorbed into the tissues. Calcium lactate from milk is best, but bitter (hard to find in capsule form) and expensive. I now use Solaray Cal/Mag 1:1 capsules. It is Calcium Citrate and the Mag is from citrate and oxide. Don't like the oxide form, but it's about the only form of Magnesium I can find. For every mg of Calcium, you need to take 1 unit of Vit D from Cod Liver Oil or the body cannot properly utilize minerals. Noyt enough Vit D is one of the causes of calcium deposits and stones. One of the latest studies shows that an aspirin taken daily makes the red blood cells "slippery" and showed that calcium deposits can not stick to them. ;)

I did, long story short my iron levels were low...my doc wouldn't give me my accutane until they came up...2 weeks with iron and I got my script. :D

Good stuff John. Do you drink milk?
What about calcium absorption from milk, cheese, yogurt, etc? Apparently, all that stuff I ate in combination with the mineral supplements were too much. What's a good type of magnesium to take?
