The entire reason I made the first post in this thread was because we have a guy that is prompting people to ask him for advice about a routine that has some major deficiencies that MUST be addressed if it is to be used in the long-term.

If you don?t know how to correct those failings, you should either state that it is a great routine to be used intermixed with other modalities. But most Mike Mentzer HIT guys believe it is the end all be all until they live out the stark reality that it is a ROUTINE without programming to deliver long term results. Fixing the deficiencies is not all that hard to do and many other HIT systems have addressed the issues.

I did very well when I trained HIT. Mike Mentzer HIT always left me stuck after a time and fortunately I was smart enough to not mix his HIT Philosophy with ?objectivism? (a philosophical system pioneered by Aynn Rand who Mike idolized) and intuitively and consciously knew I had to do ?something else? when I hit a wall with MM HIT.

I alternated between MM HIT, Stuart McRobert ?Hardgainer HIT?, Strossens ?Super Squats? and some basic SIMPLE powerlifting routines to build up to 325 x 20 squatting and 315 x 3 benching, with an ?almost? 500 lb deadlift. That was MANY years ago and better training systems have given me much better lifts than those, but HIT routines got me those respectable numbers after TOTALLY failing at bodybuilding for almost 12 years doing the DUMBASS routines of the pro?s in the bodybuilding magazines.

Sounds like a testimonial for HIT huh? Not even close. I used it on myself and training clients because at the time, it was WAY ahead of the alternative (volume work) simply because I lacked a thorough understanding of proper programming for optimal results. It was a good tool at the time simply because I/we didn?t have/know of, or understand the alternatives. There are MUCH better ways to go about training for size and strength, but it can work well and if you are going to use HIT, you should at least understand enough to work around the shortcomings. I have said it many times before, and I will say it again. If you want a low volume, high intensity routine/SYSTEM look at DC?s (AKA Dante/Dogg Crap). It has allowances for most of the failings of traditional HIT. But be aware it is structured for advanced lifters and newbies should leave it alone until they are fairly advanced.
