Need to Vent!

I recently got a 3 month sublet in Atlanta, as I needed a short term lease.

I found the sublet on craigslist, and the guy was a bit odd, told me he was going to be in LA for 4 months (music artist) and hence subletting the place.

I am always weary of craigslist transaction, but have had good success in past. I figured I would give it a shot, if it didnt work out, I lose the rent money. No big deal.

The first month went without any major issues, so I let my guard down a bit.

Then I left for a 2 week work trip to Thailand. I returned home and my lock did not work to get into the apartment.

I went to the apartment office, to ask what was going on. I was told that the previous tenant, was being evicted. They can not tell me more due to privacy. (they didnt know he had subletted the apartment). I amd guessing he was not paying his rent.

All my stuff in the apartment got trashed. Lost about 10,000$-12,000$ worth of material goods.

I tried to call the guy, but his phone was disconnected.

I found his instagram, and have his email.

I hired a lawyer, and am going to file a small claims lawsuit against him, but we first need to find him to serve the papers. I am not hopeful of getting my money back, even if I win. The guy is a lying piece of shit, and a scum, and usually those kind of people dont have jobs or any significant savings.

It pisses me off, how shitty people are. I called him two days before my 2nd months rent was due asking him how to send him the money. He told me that he was in town, and If i could get him cash, as the rent had all-ready hit his account.

The lying piece of shit knew all along he was being evicted but didn't say a word.

Good luck on getting your stuff back. My guess is he is still in Atlanta. If I were you I would tell him you have the next months rent, catch him, tie him up, put him in your trunk, make him take you where he is staying and remove everything he owns from the place. Then tell him if he goes to the police he will never screw anyone over again.

Not like I have ever done anything like that before. Just saying......

Me either.
I happen to be in Atlanta...

Drop me a line, if he's a musician of any note in ATL, there's a good chance I know him, or a friend knows him.

I hear you rough. I was very angry the first 24 hours, after this happened, but I live a pretty straight laced life, and try my best not to break any laws. The only recourse for me is a legal option here.

Choke, sent you a PM.

Yea, choke may be your man to help you (ask him about Zakk Wylde, lol). I hope this MF'r gets bad karma in return. I agree with you and everybody else, such a low-life scumbag. It's one thing to screw the rent, but to mess with your personal stuff is.....worth repercussion(s).

Good luck man, and keep us up to date on this.

Get ahold of choke - he's in Atlanta area and might be able to help ya find the bastud. Next time don't chance such a transaction with someone who you said was "odd". I damn sure wouldn't. Trust your instincts. I hope you can recover what you lost amigo.

So now you have a small claims judgement on a guy that can't afford to keep himself in an apartment..... what are you going to do with that? The justice system has nothing to do with justice.

if you lost 10 to 12 grand in stuff you should be in a higher court than small claims. Sorry to hear about this bro.

In Georgia, it is 15K. But we (me and the attorney) did end up discussing and will be filing out of small claims. With attorney fees, and stuff it will end up being more than 15K worth of damage I am trying to recover.

Never had to file a lawsuit. Seems like it will be a fun learning experience.

What do you recommend I do, just roll over cut my losses and give this guy the freedom to screw over the next person. Nah, I want to at least put some fear in him,try to "teach him a lesson."

I was too angry to just let him slide off.

Nothing puts fear in someone much more than being driven around in a car trunk hog tied then dumped off in the woods, or taken out on an air boat and dumped off in the middle of the swamp. Just throwing that out there. Lol

It’s hard to lose possessions, especially in this manner, but it does lend one a sense of freedom. The Phoenix from the ashes comes to mind. Perhaps it is your threshold to reinvent yourself. You may never get over it but you can transcend!
