I was rumbling through the closet at my moms house - the room that used to be "my room" where I grew up. And voila, what did I find? :D Some of the FIRST muscle mags I ever bought hahaa...sweet! :igok: The oldest is when I was 13...Sep, 1977 issue of Muscle Training Illustrated - the price was $1.50! On the cover is Don Ross & Nubret both hitting ab shots. Some of you old schoolers may remember Dan Lurie - he was the publisher, and had his own line of supplements & equipment...one of ol' Weiders competitors.

I also ran across some old MuscleMags. And the best for last - some old Muscle Builder mags! :D Thats back before it was Muscle & Fitness of course - back then it ruled and was ALL bodybuilding! Funny to look back and scope out Weider's supplements ads and prices - heres a few that I messed with most...

90% Plus Protein Powder - 1 lb can - $5.95 (I used to live on this nasty tasting stuff! :p)

Brewers Yeast - 360 tabs - $5.00
Super Lecithin - 100 caps - $4.00
Crash Weight Gain - 4 lb can - $8.50
Liquid Aminos - 16 oz. - $6.60

After Weider and Sergio had a "falling out" per se, you never seen Sergio pics/articles in Muscle Builder. However, Sergio was always in Muscle Training Illustrated and MuscleMag. Some featured but unforgotten names is Ron Teufel, Tony Pearson, Dave Johns, Manny Perry, Don Ross, Steve Davis, Pete Grymkowski, Roy Hilligan, Johnny Fuller, Kal Szkalak, Roger Walker, Danny Padilla, Roy Callender, Joe Nazario, Roger Callard, Carlos Rodriguez, John Brown, Steve Michalik to name several. Many of those you wouldn't see in Weiders mag bcoz of the federation wars of IFBB vs NABBA & WBBG. Weiders Muscle Builder regulars included Arnie (duh!lol), Robby, Platz, Menzter bros, Zane, Franco, Waller - the old Golds Gym gang. :)

Liquid amino's, YUK! Max Weight Gainer, ha, tasted like chalk, but desiccated liver tabs and lecithin, now there you're talkin' about some push!
I tried the liquid aminos once and never again; too sweet, but my all-time favorite Weider product was the "Anabolic Mega-paks." Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh........
Absolutely loved them, although they weren't out in 1977.
Course it wouldn't have mattered if they were, because I first measured my upper arms in 1978, when I was 18, and they were 11 inches, LOL.
Anyway, those sound like treasures. Michalik was jacked, Teufal had super-ripped abs and good symmetry, Steve Davis, oh, didn't he win Mr. Junior America in 1977? And Dave Johns, wasn't he a lifter for York before getting into body-building?
I have about 10 old Iron Man magazines at home from around 1970. Maybe after I get lashed by the Professor tonight at my intern meeting I'll be inspired to get my mind right with some old-school tools and exercises.
Maybe I'll pick up an old routine from one of the mags and get back into it before the holiday season kicks in!
Thanks for the memories...

lol, I use to read all three of those mags. Does anyone remember "Strength and Health" and "Muscular Development" published by Bob Hoffman and York Barbell company.

I think muscular development is still around

Same name different mag by different people, the new MD was started by the brothers who owned or owns Twinlab. The original covered all the AAU BB shows which at one time were quite popular. Mr. America was always an AAU athlete.

Sure do bro. When the health food store would be out of Weiders 90% Plus, I would buy Hoffmans protein powder - same yummy taste!lol :D

I have to say Hoffmans was worse. The best thing that I liked about those mags was the columns and articles by John Grimek.

I still have an original copy of the Strength and Health Magazine from 1947 with Steve Reeves on the cover after he won Mr. America.
