If you just did it I wouldn't stretch it at all if it's serious. I pulled my forearm, months ago and it's still healing.( not from lifting, in case you tell me to take my own advice, lol) You need to warm up properly before you lift, and stretch as if you're going to do a split for your groin. That should help a lot in the future. I'd take it easy with whatever exercise you did, or anything that aggravates it, until it's tolerable.
You must've done a number on your forearm if it's still healing. My doctor told me to wait a few weeks to do legs. He also said to stay away from sumo's (like you said). Two years of lifting without stretching has finally taken it's toll. Thanks for your help, b52. I'll be stretching before every workout now, regardless of the body part I'm working. How do you train around your forearm injury? Hope you heal soon, brother.
I have always stretched before, during and after workouts. I make it a point to stretch my hams EVERY workout, and also go over to the chin bar and just hang for 10 seconds several times also. Since doing this, I haven't injured my lower back in many years. Tight hams = very prone to strain lumbar. Learned this long ago. Lay off anything that causes pain in the area dude - use a heating pad to get some blood in the area so it can heal. Rest it and let it heal or you are going to be hating it when you injure it even more. Good luck.
I've been training biceps really light. Didn't train them at all for a month. Was able to do a decent bicep workout a couple days back, but still not able to curl my regular weight, but it's getting better each week. Warm up on a treadmill for ten minutes then stretch, just so your muscles are warm. and do warmup sets for the muscle group.
