how many different muscles do you use indoing push ups? this is really a full body excercise as after a few sets you will feel muscles in the front of your shins, glutes and neck muscles cramping up just to stay straight and tight. those that know alot about muscles and what theyre named, how manymuscles do you think are used as stabilizers in performing push ups??

I don't know, but I agree after awhile you start to work upper and lower back, and abs as well as chest and shoulders.

Well you use damn near all muscle groups doing them except the forearms. While they are a strengthening exercise for all these other muscles getting hit, it will only do some much.
The way they hit the muscles is one aspect of the equation for stamina/strength/raw power.
Working construction on & off for years I've seen a lot of body builders come & go and there's almost always an aspect of strength/stamina they're missing.
I.E. So many times there is aspects of 'real work' where you're stuck holding something till your muscles quiver. So it definitely give you an edge.
BTW. I do a thousand pushups a day whether I hit the weights or not. That and pullups..usually 200. I alternate weight with 100lbs... going 25;45;90 and do a 100 reps.. always have always will.

last note if you're going to use pushups- alternate hand positions as well as alternate feet height changing and combining differing positions.

pushups are great. Before I started lifting Ive been doing pushups, and it set the base for my chest develoment. I have horrible genetics, but most people think I have good chest development. Pushups helped alot. Diabeetus
