recommendations for a birthday gift

Both of my girls will have birthday's this month.
K will be 4 on the 15th, and M will be 9 on the 28th.
Both kids are active, like to be outside, and especially like to climb trees (but what kid doesn't?).
They both like books but have a few hundred already.
They are both currently in gymnastics. K is in dance as well. Utilitarian gifts aren't needed. Something special... any suggestions?
I was thinking ice skates and a membership to the skating rink, but that might not be considered a one-time birthday gift.
Help?

this dont pretain to a gift... but a friend on mine just had to hellicpoter her kid to a special hospital in north part of my state due to severe head injuries from where the kid fell from a tree.

Good to know. They only climb our magnolia trees which are fairly low to the ground, and if they are like me, I'm sure they are hard-headed as well.

get them mindflex. Its some new game that is out that looks pretty sweet and it looks very interactive. Hell I want it lol
