My heaviest movement for my shoulders is seated presses. I'm trying to figure out if behind the head or in front the head is the better movement? Or do they both need to be done?

I was thinking behind the head press would work more rear delt and front press wold work front delt?

~R~

I don't think either works the rear delts. I go next to my head with db's and in front with bb.

Behind head heavy military presses can destroy your shoulders. Rear delts get their best work on pulling movements like seated cable rows or bent over rows. Remember the delts are three separate muscle groups.

yeah i wouldstay away from behind the neck, to be hoenst I was raised on those, but that was many years ago and especially when you get higher in weight the injury is so much more. I always liked reverse pec deck for rear delts

DB press all the way for mid front delt

Reverse pec deck is great for rear delt!

Yikes. That's all i do is behind the head barbell. Guess ill stop while Im ahead.

Great info here glad I asked being i'm almost 44 I never had a shoulder injury and don't want to start now..

Thanks everyone for the input.

Good to switch up exercises too I sometimes start with rear Delts. They can be a neglected body part like trap calves forearms ....

When I do them (shoulder presses) behind the neck, I arch my back and end up with neck and back pain ...
