Would you guys classify this and other BB boards as social media just more private?
I tend to think of social media as something more public where everyone can see what?s being posted.
 
For some it's social media. For others it just places to get steroids.

All social media is, is a place to gather and share info, ideas, news, personal shit, etc...

Makes sense. For some reason it feels different. I guess because we are more of a community and not necessarily open to just anyone coming in and stirring up shit. We have mods. Other SM outlets just let people say anything about anything without any parameters or guidelines.

My wife was trying to poke fun at me and say that I?m on social media all the time, referring to the bb boards. It just got me brain thinking. I need all the stimulation I can get?
 
I stay off of social media. Its not private enough. Just as i stay off of open boards. I prefer to remain somewhat discreet.
I dont consider this as social media. I dont post my life here. I do share some private things occasionally but thsts just more to vent than to let the world know about what i had for breakfast or whatever.
 
We are more "anti-social media". (As it relates to FB, IG, Twatter, etc). Cess-pools for the insane.

I tend to agree interms of this NOT BEING social media.... In our lifestyle, I'll call it private media.
We'rin a world that in reality I'd guesstimate only
8% - 10% of ppl that have a fitness type of lifestyle partake in. Enhancing our performance.
All others just go home after work, have smokes and a beer......
 
A couple gear groups on Facebook make it convenient to checkecheck personal pages all in one without jumping sites...
 
I deactivated all of my social media accounts long ago once I realized they were collecting my information and building a profile for social engineering. I highly recommend THE SOCIAL DILEMMA on Netflix, I made my wife and son watch it twice.

I do not consider this board social media because it is absent of AI manipulated social engineering.
 
I wouldn't consider it social media since its lacking a lot of the aspects of "social" like tagging or checking into places, posting family pics, the "social" fake comments... its a private board where we come to gather because we share a common, I would even say unique passion.
I take breaks from social media from time to time... its a way to keep in touch with people that aren't necessarily close by. But like Reborn said, they collect, trend and profile our digital lives for sales/marketing and soon this Meta world Facebook is building.
 
Obviously it's not facebook or twitter but it's our social media, unless you do big tech. I'm not doing the public shit anymore, I prefer it here as these boards and this community is my social life :)
 
Boards never really felt like social media to me. Sure there is a social aspect and we share things from the media, but I feel a comfortable distance/privacy and specialization in topics that social media doesn't have.
 
I have a Facebook account and that's it. I'll check it once a day but seldom post anything. I much prefer these boards over any of the social media platforms. Social media has made internet tough guys and opinionated assholes who would argue over a rock. I got way better things to do.
 
I once had a Facebook a account years ago, wife told me to set it up to connect to family and friends.
Out of the blue a old girlfriend hit me up, wife freaked out asked me why did she hit me up. Told her I don't know you told me to set up this shit for everyone to see.
Closed that shit down will never do any social media EVER!!!!
 
Lol...I feel your pain. My wife logs into my FB more than I do. She usually gets my messages before I do. She decides who I add and block. I'm on a short leash...
