A friend of mine is doing his first PL meet tomorrow. I am going along to be his spotter and several other bros from the gym will be competing as well. He is about 260 going raw dawgie, and should end up with Bench=500, DL=700, and if he squats = 800. He is a little edgy right now...lol...been eating Drol like 100mg ED with 50 dbol for two weeks now to get one last edge. He is gonna have his wife with him, and I plan to provoke her and get her to whine and bitch at him. Should add 25-50 lbs to all his lifts (she's good...I mean real good :) )

One guy in particular that has been very helpful teaching and coaching me recently will lift equipped at 220 weight class and will bench 550+, dead 750, and will squat over 800 for sure, maybe close to 900.

Another cool thing is that I am going to meet a couple guys that I've known for years on boards like this that I've never met IRL. Should be fun.

Now that sounds like a cool Saturday! I'd like to meet some guys from the boards too.

Sounds like a fun day in store Bro...I've met a couple of the guys from the boards, I had another one of the Mods from MBM come over for a cople days who lived about 2 hrs south of me. Also trying to get that Crazy ass Pips to stop in during his travels to pickup one of his kids down south, hopefully we can work it out this spring..

thought for a inute i had forgotten i was supposed to lift today when you said big hairy ogre lol.

1st off every swinging pecker on this board should go to at least a few powerlifting meets a year because if watching those guys push theirselves till they bust a gut doesnt motivate you to lift like a animal for at least a while then you need a new hobby.

darkness just a tip dont try to pump them up to early , they will burn out . i keep it low key and quiet until just before they hit the platform then all hell breaks loose lol.

worlds stronges man gets me pumped up via espn2. had a chance to met a few bros around, but couldnt make the meet.

He didnt squat missed 475 bench and missed 700DL. I am proud of him - he lifted as much raw as most of the guys did equipped. He had over 1000 without a squat.

Gman I met Trip from over at Xcellence. What a terrific guy. He bought me a sanchwich :) I also got to meet Chuck Voglepool, a living legend. That guy impresses the hell out of me. He wasnt competing and probably sweated more than anyone else there, wrapping knees, spotting, loading plates for warmups, always working and helping. Friends and strangers. And he treated everyone the same whether you opened with 100lbs or 100lbs.

Dawg that's a great tip. I actually tried to calm him down a bit, lol. He ate 100drol and 100dbol for breakfast. Lets just say he was a little cagey :) He had some great coaching from others there who are very experienced PLers. He really wanted me to lift off his bench because he is very comfortable with me and is used to looking up and seeing/feeling the same liftoff, ya know.

Ah, memories of days past, if I close my eyes I can almost smell the ammonia caps. (well, thats what we used to use). Commaraderie, support from everyone from the girl taking your name to the guys loading your weights. But those singlets.....

I left before the awards last night, and I just got off the phone with the Oger. I am so proud of the boy. He sent me a pic of his first place plaque and I just though of course, he got first in the raw division, which only had three lifters. I was wrong, they lumped ALL of the push/pull only guys (probably 20) into a category, raw or equipped, and judged the total. So at his first meet at 23 years old, competing against all equipped guys at all classes (including some alot bigger than him), he won. I think that's quite a feat being the only raw lifter in a class. I may buy him some ice cream later and pat the strong little fucker on the head.

That is an accomplishment, congrats to him. Does equipped mean the same thing as assisted, ie. bench shirts, etc.? Seems like raw didnt use gloves or wraps either.
Just re-read your post, where you said in all classes also. So the 165lb guys were judged against the 220 guys for example? That truly is impressive. No age divisions?

For just the push/pull guys (those not squatting), they lumped everyone together except the teens. So yea, it was people from 180 to super heavyweight. All other lifters had the standard divisions by weight and age. Yea equipped=bench shirts, squat suits, etc. Raw used nothing but a singlet, but you can wrap your wrists and knees.

Sounds like a good day. What did he pull and bench? I didn't understand what you wrote. Sounds like you listed what he missed.

one thing i learned is powerlifters rarely get the best or personal best in competition its jjust what i noticed not that they cant do it its all about timing sometimes and they either hit there peak before the show or after but its hard to hit it on the achual comp day

Equipped is the shirt, the body suit, knees wrapped, wrists wrapped. belt tight.
I only lift raw. When you start adding shirts etc, to me it's not really 100% you. With a bench shirt on you can't even lowe the weight down on your chest. You have to literally pull the weight down to the chest. Of course it can easily add well over 100lbs to your bench.
But raw, it's all you!

At least. I know a guy with a 650lb bench with a shirt on that can barely get 315 raw. Some of these guys really know how to use their equipment and get them dialed in. I think 200lb added is common in the bigger classes.

the shirts are stronger these days but a lot of it is that people train JUST to bench in shirts these days . the dont care if they cant get 300 pounds off their chest raw , its not important . being able to lock out 500 is important . if these guiys went back to training raw their numbers would be closer together.
