Torn Bicep Tendon

I am in the gulf, finishing a gig. Only been 2 months this time but I am heading home today. Yesterday evening, the crew I am monitoring was trying to break a cap nut loose on a tank we are gonna use to catch fluids and they were struggling and so me, being a bear, figured I would help. I grabbed hold of the wrench with the breaker bar along with 2 other guys and as soon as I pulled, the distal end of the bicep tendon ruptured and my bicep curled up toward the shoulder.


So now, I am still going home after we get done today but I also have to now have an MRI and a surgical consult. Anyone else do this? This is my first time with this issue. Not the surgery, had plenty of those, just never torn a bicep tendon loose from the bone before.

He said it sucks.


Post surgery is supposedly 8 month’s recovery
 
Ouch man, that sure sucks what happened. Hopefully you get surgery quick, but the recovery gonna be a bit of a suck.

That?s not what I wanted to hear. I have spent the last 2 months unable to lift and eating shit food and I am going home today and was so looking forward to cleaning up my diet, lifting hard, and riding my bikes.... FML

Never torn a bicep but have torn both triceps at different times. Rehab and recovery is a long process for sure. My experience there was an upside though. It took about close to a year for both to regain strength 100% but I did gain all my strength back. Both felt great after full recovery and I’ve never had any problems with either since the injuries. So don’t get too down. Just take it slow and hopefully you’ll get all your strength back too.
 
I did this may of 2015. The doc told me the longer it takes for them to get you into surgery, the farther it can retract. The MRI was excruciatingly painful for me...hopefully it won't be for you. Recovery wasn't bad, just slow and it kind of drags. The following September, I was chaining a piece of equipment to a trailer, that had shifted in transit, and had my body weight, plus 100% effort, and my bicep repair held, but the chain broke. At that point, I felt like my arm was back in the game and good to go for whatever abuse I wanted to give it. Still doing great. It does fatigue sooner and get weird cramps when under a load for a long period of time or at a funny angle, but no pain, and 100% use.

Thank you everyone. I had surgery one week ago today and all is well. I am at home recovering right now..... And doing cardio... yuck

I've had it tear at the shoulder along with a torn rotator cuff. Had both repaired at the same time. Took off about 3 months before I started up slowly again. Not problems, but when I go heavier on arm day's, I get a feeling like it's going to detach. But I reset myself and think about the poundage and my age (55). I drop the pounds a lil bit and go for slow reps.

You'll be good just let it heal properly!
 
Currently recovering from a ruptured triceps tendon. Had it fixed, and then re-ruptured it 4 months post operation. I am now 3 months post op from my second surgery. This shit blows. Shittiest year I have had in a while. About 5 or 6 years ago I ruptured my quad tendon. That was miserable. So, safe to say I am over having any kind of tendon surgeries. Wish you a speedy recovery but let it heal, don't be rushing to the gym or lifting anything crazy for at least 6 months. Even then I would be careful. I will say this, I been running 125mg of Deca a week along with my TRT and it made stretching the tendon back out a lot easier than when I had to do it without it.
 
I'm 2 weeks post op today and doing really well. Almost zero pain most of the time. I am back in the gym but not working that bicep currently. I seem to be just fine with tricep movements and chest/ pushing motions and I can do legs and cardio as well. Thank you all.

Sounds like great news...slow and steady as she goes!
