Politeness and character/integrity

where did all our morals and integrity go..If I accidently bump into someone, I was taught to say excuse me.....even if it was not my fault..I was taught to shake someone's hand with a frim grip and look the person in the eye when talking to him....I HATE a wimpy grip.....I was taught to open a door for a lady and open a door for people coming in behind me....If you let a driver coming out of a parking lot into the street since it the street is busy, that driver should atleast wave a thank you...what happened...No one says excuse me.....few people say thank you for letting them into your lane from a parking lot...few people hold the door for a lady or anyone...Few people know how to say excuse me....thank you...please...where did yes ma'am no ma'am..yes sir, no sir go.....where did all the respect go and character go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!

I was so impressed a few months ago, when I saw an eldery man walk by an older women and he acutally tipped his hat to her as he walked by....what happend to that respect......do we teach our kids respect....are we too involvd in "our own world" and what is best for us.....Do we understand the true meaning of character and integrity......Most of us do not....SAD

It still lives bro.
Out in West Texas (where I used to live) it was common courtesy to raise one finger from your grip on the steering wheel when passing an oncoming truck/car.
I called it the "Howdy Finger".
The further you drive from West Texas... the less common it is.
Also... I work in a high rise. I once held the elevator door a few extra seconds for a woman that I saw entering the building with a look of "Oh shit... there goes the elevator" on her face. The guy beside me threw his hands up over his head like "WTF!?"
She turned out to be hot as hell. He said "Hello" to her and she turned and looked at him and said "Fuck you!". She then turned to me and said "Would you like to have lunch with me?"
I said "Only if you let me buy". She giggled and tossed her hair.
Turns out she was married... but still liked to play footsie in the food court... lol.

uh........................what does your elevator story have to do with anything. LOL :)

i think the whole respect thing died along time ago...sometimes it seems like i am the only one who holds doors and says excuse me....

to be honest if i do bump into someone it all depends on the person if i will say excuss me..if its some tough guy i wont say a dam thing or one of those fake thugs....other than that i try to treat people like i want to be treated..

I thought he was saying he was rewarded for his courtesy, so it pays off.

it all depends on the person. some people are born pricks some not. i won't go out of my way to be polite but i won't be a prick either. the best is when you hold the door for a woman and she just walks by not moving her fuckin head like it was expected. the next time i see that bitch i will not be polite.

hey Jester.. that Howdy Finger Still Happens around good ole west texas...

and parts of the hill country...

i see your point.. polietness and courtesy is very much gone.. I see a lot of young couples on 1st dates etc and the guy doesnt hold the door for the girl, or unlock her side of the car

F that Coldstone unlocks my door and opens and shuts it for me still .. A year and 2 months later...

Still happens in the panhandle.

i hear ya bro, i will say that i still open doors & things like that, but in general all that stuff is long gone with 2days kids etc

a week or so ago i was walkin out 2 my car & this lil old lady was just startin @ the stairs, i said good mornin & noticed she had 2 bags of food....i asked if i could help her out & did....it prob took an entire 2 min

most people r just assholes these days & dont wana do anythin unless theres $ comin 2 them

it still happens in good ole' BAMA...... us rednecks are polite folks til ya piss us off...............

the howdy finger on the streets of new york is just asking too much. the more crowded it gets, the more the rules change.

cept holding the doors, elivator and otherwise seems rather rare. I try. but at some point, too many people and contstantly fighting for personal space can turn one into a proper bastard.
