Around my black friends I just say "a black dude" or "a black chick," I'm a white guy I dont need a scientific term like "caucasoid" or "caucasian."
This goes to show everyone is different. I dont need to be refered to as from a certain homeland either, I'm not 100% from any one country heritage wise, so how would we be PC about that? 100% of the people will not be happy 100% of the time.
I was not brought up to be racist, nor was I brought up being told constantly "you are Irish, be PROUD SON!" or any such fucking bullshit. IMO, where you are from should not determine your level of pride, it doesn't mean shit about who YOU are as a person or what YOU have achieved. Therefore I dont give a fuck if someone doesn't recognize where my heritage may lie, or if they don't happen to know I was born in Germany, or so on. Big fuckin' deal, but that is JMO. To some it will be very important to have others know this.
I have friends who are proud to be "100% Mexican." What does that mean? There were many tribes of native peoples, who were in a land raped by the Spaniards. So what the hell is 100% Mexican? To me the terminology and importance of such a statement is completely flawed. This doesn't mean I dont like people from Mexico, or Tejanos or any such nonsense, half of my family comprises of various Latin American mixes by way of marriage. I just was never brought up to see the importance of DIVIDING yourself from others in society because of your color or where the fuck your great great grandpappy was from.
Be proud of what you have done with your own life, not your skin color or the language you speak. If you are from the same place in Brazil that Pele was from thats awesome and would make for interesting conversation, but I hope you dont go around your entire life identifying with that as if it means something about your own character.
I'm a white guy and it doesn't mean a whole fuck of a lot to me. So far in my life I identify a little better with people who come from a little more old fashioned background than most white people do, but I dont view that as important either. This whole race BS issue is played out, old news that should have never existed as an issue. Unfortunately humans are not perfect.
We are the human race, and we are diverse. We come from different places and speak different languages and have different levels of skin pigmentation, but we dont need to be divided beyond that in a social sense.
If someone mentions that I should refer to certain people as xxxx-americans, then I will ask them how they refer to white people, out of genuine curiosity not because I view it as a big deal.
