I have one in my belly button and was considering getting it fixed. What's the down time?

Six to eight weeks give or take and then you have to build up slowly.

Yeah 6-8 weeks... I have known a few to get better in lil as 4weeks but I would give it at least 6wks to be on the safe side. Unless ur Dr gives you the go ahead and you feel ur healed ppl heal differently.

Hiatal Hernias have a much quicker recovery then inguinal hernias also with less complications. You can be back in the gym quickly 4 weeks or less each week after will get better and better.

Hiatal hernias are in the upper gastric region and cause heartburn. Umbilical hernias are in the naval region and recovery varies from person to person depending on severity. Light weight training can start in as little as a week or two or as long as six weeks.

Just wear a lifting belt until you get where you have to push your guts back in after each set!:nerd:

Yeah i agree it truly varies from person to person. I had a large ingunial hernia and was back in the gym within 4 weeks extremely light training but I did have many complications with nerve endings being trapped. Not a fun process 2 years later I just deal with eventually forgetting the pain is there. I had a friend who had a smaller one and has had no issues what so ever.

umbilical hernia? i had that fixed on a monday mowing my grass thursday, i took two solid months off before i lifted again though

I had mine fixed February of 2007, and by June I was lifting heavy deads and squats. I was able to do other heavy lifts about 6-8 weeks after, and less intense movements 4 weeks post-op.

It doesn't hurt at all post-op though. Just feels a little sore.
