I got back from my PCP and the dude prescribed me this shit...anyone else used this med....its primarily used for Psychosis,Bi-Polar....and alsi Depression....ANY personal experience with this psyciatric med?....ZZZZZZZZZZ

I see it used quite a bit in patients with PTSD. Sedation is the main side effect of Seroquel lasting days or even longer. It is claimed to be one of the most sedating of all antipsychotics. You should take the medication in the evening until you are sure of how it will effect you. As with all medications in this class, do not discontinue its use abruptly.

On a side note: The patent has run out here in Canada and is about to expire in the USA as well. AstraZeneca, the producers of Serquel, have introduced Seroquel XR. A sustained release formulation to be used in the treatment of schizophrenia. It's funny to me how as soon as the patent on a profitable medication, like Seroquel, expires, the drug company comes out with a superior form of the medication. This has been seen with Effexor, Paxil, Celexa, and so many others I can't begin to name them all.

There is no proof at this time that second generation antipsychotics are more efficacious than their first generation counterparts...just much more expensive.

What is Seroquel?

Seroquel is an antipsychotic medication. It works by changing the actions of chemicals in the brain.

Seroquel is used to treat schizophrenia in adults and children who are at least 13 years old. It is used to treat bipolar disorder (manic depression) in adults and children who are at least 10 years old.

Seroquel is also used together with antidepressant medications to treat major depressive disorder in adults.

Extended-release quetiapine (Seroquel XR) is for use only in adults and should not given to anyone younger than 18 years old.

Seroquel may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
Important information about Seroquel

Seroquel is not for use in psychotic conditions related to dementia. Seroquel may cause heart failure, sudden death, or pneumonia in older adults with dementia-related conditions. Stop using Seroquel and call your doctor at once if you have the following symptoms: fever, stiff muscles, confusion, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats, uncontrolled muscle movements, symptoms that come on suddenly such as numbness or weakness, severe headache, and problems with vision, speech, or balance.

You may have thoughts about suicide when you first start taking an antidepressant, especially if you are younger than 24 years old. Your doctor will need to check you at regular visits for at least the first 12 weeks of treatment.

Call your doctor at once if you have any new or worsening symptoms such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.

You may have thoughts about suicide when you first start taking an antidepressant, especially if you are younger than 24 years old. Tell your doctor if you have worsening symptoms of depression or suicidal thoughts during the first several weeks of treatment, or whenever your dose is changed.

Your family or other caregivers should also be alert to changes in your mood or symptoms. Your doctor will need to check you at regular visits for at least the first 12 weeks of treatment.

I took ambian after my accident and it put me out but made me groggy in the morning. My doctor prescribed seroquil but forgot to give me the script before I left the office. I never took it. The way you guys describe it I probably would have had better effect from taking it.
