Stronger than yourself, that is. The strongest dude in our gym works out often the same time as myself. We're cool - great guy. He's 31, 5'9 and 210. I spotted him on the bench today - he hit 455 x 3. All him. He did 3 sets. Strong dude all around - squat and dead's strong too.
But to my point - he's one of the only guy's stronger than me in the gym. All around that is - MANY can bench more than me simply bcoz I haven't benched in many years due to RC issues. Same with squat and deads. But most other stuff I hold my own, ie, leg press, bb/db/t-bar rows, inclines, etc. Being 57 and training for 43 years now, I have mastered the ability to push myself very hard training alone. I DO miss having a good training partner with the same drive as me, and I've only had 2 partners in my life that lived up to that. Most would call in to the gym on leg day with some lame azz excuse haha.
However, I gotta admit, I get a boost having someone in their stronger. Like today, I was hitting arms, and after spotting him, I went over and did my set of db hammer curls with 80's, and got 2 more reps than last workout.
Trust me folks, at my age, AND after all the years I've been lifting, TWO MORE REPS is freaking insane from one workout to the next.
So in summary - if you got some stronger guys than you in the gym, take advantage and use that motivation to set some PR's of your own. :yesway:
