How come when I eat some wheat bread with a meal or if I have a sandwich I feel like I have a ton of energy. However, when I eat oatmeal I just feel blah

Any ideas

Bro the oats are very low on the glycemic index meaning they dont raise blood sugar levels like some foods. Bread, even wheat bread, is different. I'm not a fan of breads in my diet even if it is a whole grain wheat. Eating foods such as oats that dont have lots of sugars will kinda make you a little sluggish. Its probably due to the fact that you are use to consuming those sugars and your body notices the difference when you do not consume them. At least I have experienced this when I'm dieting. Stick with the oats bro, there is nothing that can compare to them. Try throwing in some other foods to get your energy up. Maybe before a workout etc.. when you really need them. Let us know how it works

I ate straight oats yesterday with protein after runnin for a mile and a half, I felt like CRAP. Had almost no energy until I ate some lean turkey burritos (flour tortilla/lean ground turkey/salsa/fat free cheese). I was thinkin it was because i made such a drastic change in my diet almost immediatley and my body was just adjusting or somethin like that.

How much oats?

How long you feel "blah" for?

Do you train after the oats? If so how long after?

I believe it was 1cup of oats washed down with 75grams of protein. I feel Blah forever and I usually take them in 45min-1hr before working out.

I would take them 1.5 -2 hours pre WO. just me though. I wouldnt be able to digest them that soon. I would still feel full.

75g protein sounds like a lil too much. I think I remember Bigwilly sayin even he only gets in 50g about per meal. I dunno, jus throwin things out there.

I'm a bagel fan...can't get enough lol. But oats are definitely better, espeically if your trying to stay lean.

It takes longer than that to digest. You need to wait about 2.5 hrs before training after eating oats.

Very nice post mpresiv.

For me, I eat my oats an hour prior to workout - along with a glass of Amped or Primed.

I agree with Akira, I normally eat oats 1- 1.5 hours before lifting

I have tried to use a baked sweet potato (not canned yams) one hour prior to workout just to see if it would provide me with any increased energy. As 1 cup of a baked sweet potato (with nothing on it) is roughly 41g of carbs and 4g of protein VRS. 1 cup of cooked oats that has 25g of carbs and 6g of protein.

Honestly, I did not notice a difference... but I'm not "normal" :D

Train Hard!

I feel it all depends on the guy IMO.. If oats causes him to feel sluggish, then don't take it at that time.. like for me, i get gas and feel bloated when i take whole wheat/grain bread.. i just avoid it whenever i can.. everybody's different.. even though i like oats and they are good, if your body just can't take them, then dont.. just my opinion.
