EVERYTHING! :) I know that's a lame answer, but the more you switch it up the better.

I've found that I get the best results if I alternate between jogging and sprinting. When I was cutting over the summer, I'd jog 4 times a week and sprint the other 3.

When jogging, I made sure my heart rate wasn't above my 70% max BPM. I would run for an hour, in the morning on an empty stomach.

When I sprinted, I would do a quick 2 min light jog warm up. Then I'd sprint 40 yards, 20 times with about 15-30 second rest inbetween. This was also done in the morning on an empty stomach.

variety is key. after the spring semester starts the 20th im going to add swimming twice weekly

Treadmill is the type of cardio that I feel benefits me the most. But after 4 to 6 weeks you become very proficient in that activity, so as you become more efficient at an activity your calorie expenditure goes down. Detraining only takes approx two weeks so I alternate treadmill three or four weeks in a row followed by a two week interval of stepper or cycle etc.

I prefer using the big leg muscle to burn fat, so i do treadmill on a steep incline. Works very well!
