Deadlift age....

I have a buddy with a 13 year old son. He is training in the gym for football. He presented me with a question I wanted to bring here to you guys. He asked me if his 13 year old son is to young for deadlifts....

I naturally said no, but not super heavy. What are your thoughts?
 
My buddy is a power lifter and he has his 6 yr old son doing dead lifts. It's real light weight but the kid has perfect form. I can't see anything bad about it as long as they are not pushed into too heavy of weight.
 
I think I started lifting as soon as I had a hair on my nuts so around the same age. Now I'm all fugged up. Just look at me, still addicted to deads and stuff.

So bet you now feel a bit of jealousy don't you? But in the end you must be proud of your boy to live the strong life!
 
Had my son doin it at age 10 and his form sucked and just pissed me off. He just wanted to show how much he could lift but looked like he had turrets* syndrome lol

Never too early to get correct form burned into muscle memory.
 
definately if its not heavy....they can at least learn proper form....my son is 11 and lovessss deadlifting but goes really light cuz i want him to learn proper form....i never let him lift heavy cuz every young guy wants to show how much they can lift..............
 
at 11 i couldn't deadlift 135, but two neighborhood kids who went on to play D-1 basketball could and picked on me for it...one is a strength coach at VTech now...i really didn't deadlift until my sophomore year...weighing135lbs then i could only do 275x4 if i remember correctly...i was a competitive swimmer so size wasn't coming my way then either
 
The old school philosophy was wait until 15. Don't know why. Something about physical development being messed with.
 
Superset deadlifts with full step lunges and watch the body grow while maintaining flexibility. Volume sets for kids!
