Decompression therapy

I started last week cause my L4-L5 discs are bulging and I am willing to try anything to prevent surgery. I have been getting a deep tissue massage twice a week also. Luckily, my insurance covers all of it. Anyone ever go thru it and how did it work for you. For those who don't know what it is, they strap you to a table and basically pulls you from your waist and ARM pits and stretches the Shit out of you. It hurts but seems to be helping my sciatic nerve pain.

No decompression but did get the epidural steroid shot and it was fucking horrible. Felt like they lodged a softball in my spine. hurt like hell for months after that. Heard it does wonders for some but damn sure not me. If ya go with decompression please let me know how it works for ya

Spinal decompression treatment works on the principle of reducing stress on the spinal discs. As a result of it, the back stiffness gets relieved. Often, compression of the spinal discs is what leads to back pain which is due to strain on the vertebrae. You must always remember that bones may experience a high level of pressure on account of factors like slumped posture, inaccurate standing, sitting or sleeping. Such pressure could in turn compress the spinal discs and cause lots of back pain.

D what you are referring to is traction therapy for the spine. Been there, done that. Then in 2001, I bought an inversion table. MUCH more effective than traction dude. It cost me $350 back in '01. You can set it at any angle you choose...all the way to the point that you are hanging upside down. Your own bdwt is providing the decompression vs the table and straps. When my lumbar was really messed up and I was out of work due to it, I would use it 2x ed, 15-20 minutes each time. Talk about awesome relief. Then after my back healed up, I would use it for maintenance maybe only 3x per week, 10 minutes each time.

Best investment I ever made for the lumbar and I would (and have) highly recommend anyone with lumbar issues to invest in a solid inversion table. Just be sure you get one that can handle your bdwt, since many have a max of only 250 lbs. The brand name I bought was by "teeter"...search for "teeter inversion" if you wanna scope it out bro. I found a pic of the one I have....

Thanks Hank, dude we were just looking at one almost exactly like that at Costco on Monday. It was on sale for $250, Shit I am gonna buy it. I am still gonna go thru with this therapy and messages cause insurance covers it, a 30 min deep tissue massage from a hot chick for only a tip is awesome..LOL

thanks for the pic dark, i will definately be buying one the next time my back "goes out"

my dad has the one from costco and loves it. His favorite thing to do is to sit in the hot tub to get nice and loose then go hang.
I've used it a bit myself and my back always just feels kind of good afterward. I don't really have back pain, so I don't not ice a relieve, but it just feels good, like everything is in place and extra happy.

You can also do some good ab work on it if you shorten up the leg thing for height a bit and don't use the strap so you can hang all the way back.

I may also look into this as someone who suffers lower back problems from time to time.

I do a lot of haning legs lifts on this pullup bar and sometimes just hang from the bar for a mintue or two and that seems to help a little.

My father did it and it really messed him up more. Maybe it depends on the person who is doing it? He also had severe spinal stenosis so possibly this was not the best thing to be doing. Good luck to you and I hope it helps. I have sciatic pain too and it is debilitating when it acts up.

BSD, i did it all...many times over, with no help. after 2 years I had the operation, L4-L5-S1 spinal fusion and now i feel like im 16 again.

Bump, BSD, did you check out that link for the inversion table?
