anyone been to disney with their family? i need some details on that if possible--so lets open a thread to help me plan a disney trip

Hi Ozzy,

We did a family trip a year ago. My wife planned it but I know some things, plus I can ask her what I do not know.
I can say this. No need for a gym when you go to disney with little ones. They want to be carried and lifted and loved and that's a pretty good workout.
Let me know.

Great for the kids, but drove me insane everytime. Long lines, expensive, shitty food, etc... We decided as a family to vacation in the carribean from now on. Plenty to do, even with kids of all ages.

If you do go, I recommend a travel agency. yes, they get a cut of the $, but it winds up being cheaper and you get better park access. Also, any FL residents get a discount to any of the parks, so it might be worth making a friend in FL :)

willi what did it cost you guys?

does anyone know the average cost? when i googled it, i found 2500 was about average

Oz, It was about $4,000 but we went kinda high end meaning we stayed on the resort at Animal Kingdom and ate pretty fancy...wife likes wine.

Its less expensive to stay at a hotel just off the resort, the rooms may actually be better and the transport is great. Plus you wont have a Giraffe looking in your window.

But it is a pretty pricey place. I only dreamt about such a vacation when I was a child.

be careful of the dates when you plan the trip...there's an annual "coming out" day event and gay parade there each year...probably not something you'd want to experience with the family

No biggie with that irish, my youngest brother is gay so my kids will be used to that, but thanks for the heads up

I'm assuming Disney World. I've never been there, but everybody I've talked to says you need to plan on a whole week at least to see everything, it's huge. I'm not sure how it is at DW, but out here in Cali, we try to go during the school year and on the weekdays to cut down on traffic and line waits. Try to plan it around the weather too, meaning, not during hurricane season in Florida, and not during their hottest times so you are not sweating your asses off. Actually, does florida even get that hot?

Jipped over at WCBB just went with his family this last year and posted about it on the off-topic forum over there.

We use to go every year, you can go and spend as much or as little as you like depending on weither you stay on their property or just stay in kissimmee within walking distance... I've done both and must say now with kids it's much nicer to stay there, but for a couple grand you guys can have big fun...

Ah so that's where Darkness and John Benz go every year :D

Try costco.com If your not a member it might be worth it to be one. it saved us a lot but I don't remember what it cost.

I have been to Disneyland like 10times, only a couple hour drive, and its cool, Went twice last year. We just booked a week trip to Orlando this summer to hit disneyworld. I don't really like crowds and things of that nature but I do it for my wife and kids. The resort were staying at has a big waterpark so my son and I will probably spend most of our time there while the girls are out shopping and site seeing. The plane tickets were 2k and we used our timeshare and traded for there, only 1k for 8 nights. We're planning on dropping another 2k that week so a 5k vacation. Uggh

I was there years ago (in Florida). It took me two days to try everything lol. It wasn't cheap but worth every $. I'm sure that little ozzy will have a blast!

I live a couple of hours away and have been there too many times.
Figure about $85 per person for admission, another $50 per for food. If you stay there try to go in the off season, not during the summer, not during holidays. If you do you will wait in long lines in the Florida heat. Whoever said you could stay in one of the surrounding cities a LOT cheaper were right. Winter Haven, Lakeland, Haines City, Davenport will be cheaper and about 30-45 minutes away and I listed them in order of cheapest to most expensive.
Bring sun screen, stay hydrated, and stay a few days because it is WAY too much to take in in one day.
If I can help you in any way let me know.

The wife invited me to go the third week of this month, but I could see it for what it was, just a way to sucker me into watching the kids so she could run, and for me to pay for everything.
I gracefully declined, but enjoyed it there when I went years ago.
Expect to drop a few bills.
