Some trainer at my gym was tellin me that its not good to eat before bed and try to get my last meal in 2 hours before, Does any1 know the reasons for this? Majority of the trainers are clueless at my gym so I figured id ask you guys

In the midst of bulking right now so I usually have 1 cup of rice/Can a tuna before bed..probaly not the best for digestion but fuck it

IMO, eating before bed is beneficial....rice and tuna is fine....consuming carbs at this time will improve sleep.

I go with a protein/fat combo. An example would be a protein shake with some flax oil or peanut butter. Carbs right before bed isn't the best idea. Why, well because carbs cause an insulin response. Since you"ll be sleeping, your going to be using a minimal amount of energy. Insulin will just shuttle the extra energy into storage (fat cells). It really is a lot more complicated then that, but you get the point.

i could see maybe a casein shake before bed but while asleep your body (including your metabolism) slow down so carbs etc tend to be more likely to break down to sugar... then fat... casein would keep your body with protein over night since it breaks down slower and wouldnt really sit there and do nothing like a carb would... i dont know how much of a difference it makes if you are bulking but cutting.. for sure no carbs after a certain time ( 3-5pm) and no food within 2-3 hours of bed unless its casein

Very good answer, I agee fully.

I think they meant not to eat too heavy b4 bed. Drinking casein is good. I drink it mixed with isolate. I eat a meal about 9pm but like lean mean and a veggie, and the shake of course.

Not to hijack the thread but is it cool to still use maybe 1 cup skim milk and 1 cup water or should I stick with just water? It seems the little fat in the milk helps it break down.

Eating right before bed means your body will be digesting food and not go into a proper deep sleep for as long (REM) this is when natty GH & test levels are replenished.
If you're going to eat before bed, regardless, I'd take a melatonin supp to aid your sleep.

Don't be afraid to eat some carbs at night, people.......you will sleep better.....plus, who da fack wants to go to bed hungry if ya aint gotta....LOL.

I'm not joking, not bulking nor cutting.....I am at the point in my life that I don't stress out over food anymore like I did when I was younger....it's not worth it......gotta live a little.....I exercise to keep my body strong and healthy.....I let my workouts take care of the fat.

Well said. I'm in my 30's and the body is not what it used to be. I'm having to change up my workouts and cardio to adjust accordingly. I'm hoping that the few diet changes and cardio changes will make the difference. Glad to hear from someone who at least seems to be of the same understanding. Good on ya bro.

i eat 7oz chicken or beef with peanuts and green veggies right before bed. then when i wake up at night i drink a casein shake. never heard of anything being wrong with that before now

Bingo!!!

I have never had a problem eating carbs before bed. I did it during my show prep and came in fine.

Don't be afraid of carbs I say.:D

not at all ...but i'd definitly skip them right before bed ( last meal of the day).

I've spoken to a psychiatrist about eating before bed - no, not in therapy, on a training course -and he reckoned that going to bed on a full stomach hinders the quality of the sleep (when our bodies naturally replenish hormone levels) maybe not too much of a big deal on a heavy test or HGH cycle, but for natty trainers, sleep quality is just as important as training & eating.

i would appreciate if someone would tell me what i should do .....

. i have a bad habit of having dinner 2AM in the morning all over again .. i get hungry when watching tv ..... should i stop this ...

is it unhealthy

I just had a pint of Haggen Daz ............. probably not the right thing but it tasted SOOOO good.

Interesting theory especially since most choose a slow digesting protein before bed... according to this theory you would have to ask yourself what is it more important to fall into that REM sleep or get the protein throughout the night? I'm gonna have to do more research on this

The crazy doc suggested nothing 2 hours prior to bed, maybe a casein would be ok, not sure.
The reason for the whole discussion was to do with sleep patterns offshore. A lot of grown men have problems sleeping away from their own bed, some do a "short change" which is switching from days to nights & vice versa. It fucks up sleeping patterns and one of the things he mentioned was to ask the guy in question to refrain from food up to 2 hours before bed, due to the digestion process interfering with REM sleep. As we all know, REM sleep is when the body replenishes hormone levels. As I said, maybe not a problem to a juicer but to the natty guy, could be a huge bummer.
