hi everyone, just wondering what the nutritionists out there think of the flavoured cans of tuna. I brought one to work today for my lunch as I was getting tired of plain old tuna and started wondering if I would be better off adding my own 'flavour'. It's an 85 g tin of tuna - flavour is sundried tomato and basil - and it says it's 110 cal with 4g of fat, 16 g of protein and 300 mg of sodium.

Tuna is something you should really watch as far as something that makes a large part of your diet. When I wrestled in high school and the Army, I ate the stuff religiously. More and more information is coming out about the high levels of mercury in fish, especially cold water fish, which includes tuna. If I were you, I'd look more at other types of fish to incorporate into your diet, preferably freshwater fish. You can still supplement with fish oil to receive the benefits of the O3s.

the tuna in the sealed pouch tastes sooo much better in my humble opinion hehe

Yes, I have been reading about the high levels also. It's just so easy to grab a can of tuna to take to work and have it on my wasa bread that I keep here. I really like Tilapia and Mahi Mahi as well.

Anyone with some good fish recipes????

Once or twice a week is fine but yeah anymore than that you would be risking it.

I don't know if your aware but Tilapia is like the catfish of the sea. They eat the shit that falls to the bottom just like catfish do. I don't know whether that makes it worse for you or not but its just something i was interested to find out about.

Haha I eat like a can of tuna a day, I guess i should cut down.

REALLY??? I've read they were one of the most and best farmed raised fish and they are on the raise for being a fish that more people are eating because of the mild taste. There are a lot of species of Tilapia so maybe it's not all species.
