Just found out this afternoon my department is deploying myself and a small group of others to Newark NJ to aid in administering COVID vaccines to the public. All expenses are paid by FEMA.

It will be a new experience for me and I am really not knowing what to expect. I still will be able to check-in on you guys but it will be limited. Leaving this tomorrow.

Wish you guys all the best while I'm away and will catch up when I get back.

Have fun. Don't drink the water.

Thats what I have been told. That.....and travel in groups....guys have been saying how much of a craphole Newark is....filled with gangs, drugs, crime and the like. We will see.

I will take your advice.....

Be safe...that's where I grew up
Some parts have 200yr old mansions that are kept in immaculate shape, you go 6 blocks south, west or east and it looks like armageddon.

Walk straight, they?ll think you?re undercover! Have fun and remember, the Delaware River is tidal! Anybody gives you trouble... ?in the sink they go!?😚

It's the Passaic river that runs thru Newark from the bay, where ports Newark and Elizabeth are, all the way to Bergan County. It's only about 20ft deep in the middle in most parts but when it overflows just about the entire "Ironbound section", which is east Newark, floods so bad cars literally float away and get stuck under the NJ Transit rail bridges which for the most part are just as high as the were in the mid 1800's when they used horse and carriage lol...I've seen so many tractor trailers attempt to make it when clearly they still had 6"-1' to clear and rip the cabs or trailers clean off.

In the mid to late 80's they found more dead bodies floating in that river during the crack explosion because it passes at the time one of the worst projects in Newark, Grafton Ave. Who knows how many were missed when the tide took the bodies out during low tide times lol, not to mention the amount of floating, bloated cattle carcasses from the slaughter houses in east Newark. They'd dump the dead or dying cows right in the water. There's like 5-6 High Schools that use that nasty river for crew practice and races. Even tho it's probably still on the list as one of the worst polluted rivers on the east coast we still went fishing for carp, pulled some 20-30 pounders outta there plus striped bass when they came from the bay upstream to spawn. Signs everywhere "DO NOT CONSUME ANY FISH CAUGHT IN THESE WATERS. PLEASE CATCH AND RELEASE FOR YOUR OWN HEALTH AND SAFETY" and dudes would STILL catch nice size stripers and eat them. Can't imagine how much PCB's, Benzene and Lord knows what chemicals are still embedded in that nasty mud.

Those are great stories! My father-in-law lived in Elizabeth and my ex-wife was born there... hmmm! I guess I got it confused with Camden on the Delaware. I love your details. My Dad loved striped bass! Newark sounds rough, he should only travel with a buddy!
