So I am graduating from the college with my bachlor in finance and have accrued quite a bit of student loans. And since the market really isnt the best for job hunting in my fields im interested in. I was thinking the Army or Navy. I mean I would go to officer canadate school and dont think i would see action, I could get a nice signing bonus plus alot of my student loans taken care of. Are there any officers here I just want a rough estimate of what i could expect for signing and tution reinbursemnt.

From personal family experience .............

Air Force - Especially seeing that you are educated.

Navy

Marines

Army

In that order .................

Yeah, thats the way I was initially thinking but I know the navy and Army pay the most and this decision is mostly about money. I think I am going to try and talk to all of the branches though -the marines

My best friend graduated from a top university, and went to OCS for the marines. Hes loving it. I could ask him about his tutition reimbursment...he owed about 80k in loans.

Honestly that would be awesome bud, thats about where I am with loans too! Also ask about his pay when he gets out and what service he think would be best. Id really appreciate it.

Was in the Navy, nuke...go with the Air Force. Most relaxed atmosphere and you get to stay on land.

It all pays low so you might as well be comfortable

I know the pay isnt the best but I look at it like if I only get 30k a year to start, then 15k or so signing, then another 40k in tution reinbursment for 4 years. That comes to over 40k a year plus more for raises and a guarentted job and I am planning on more than that for signing and reinbursement.

Air Force ............... think standard of living and longevity. The difference in money is going to be minimal and where you do get paid more you are probably more likely to see action or die. Not worth it IMO.

Money is low, plus I assume being an officer you're talking 6 yrs, not 4.

Other things to consider...free food, free housing (or atleast subsidized) , no medical expenses, not much clothes to buy.

Military life ain't that bad, unless you get some skank pregnant like most people do. Then you're screwed.

I was an officer for 3 years in the Navy....once they have you signed on the dotted line they OWN you....they can do whatever they want....Army and Marines have the highest possibilty of seeing action....in the Navy you're always at risk of being attached to a fleet for 2 years....usually gone for 12-18 months....the Marines can also get you attached to an FMF, and on a ship for the same time frame as the Navy

the Air Force has bases in the middle of no where....not only in the US but overseas....the pay scale for all the branches is exactly the same, salary, housing, food....the only differences are the bonuses paid and that depends on what a particular branch needs....

I had a good friend in Finance and with the Marines....he was attached to my FMF unit and was out on float....basically in charge of the money....

another note....don't believe a thing the recruiter tells you....he has absolutely no say in where you go....they'll tell you to list your choices for duty station and basically turn the list upside down on you...

On another note being in the military was a great experience and I made a lot of lifelong friends....

Do you think me even being an officer with a finance degree that they would send me over? I mean I know you get paid tax free and stuff but Id just rather stay in the states. Who do you think pays the best as far as reinbursment and bonuses? I also wonder if the bonuses are tax free and who decides if you get it all at once or in payments? And Ill make sure and not believe them where they send me LOL

My friend has a Finance degree, hes finished OCS around Jan and is going to Iraq in Sept.

Just remember nothing and I mean nothing!!!!! is guaranteed in the military, you must expect the worst possible scenario at all times then you will never get upset or disappointed. Things change at the drop of a hat in the military so make no plans or commitments you can't put on hold while serving. Oh, and like most have already said if you want the easiest ride go Airforce definitely.

Recruiters make more promises than politicians. Never believe what they tell you.

ive been working for the air force for about 4 years it's great! yea become an officer. them fools have it made

So I went and talked to a recruiter today and I found out that I have to prolly just enlist, but since i got a degree I go in as an E4 but they pay back 65k in student loans which is huge.

Fuck that shit, don't go in enlisted. Get commissioned or don't go in. Trust me.

No way on the elistment...that would be stupid as hell.

Just get your degree and then go to OCS

they said they prolly wouldnt let me enlisted casue of my felony charges, what is the difference with commisined?

If you go in as an officer you have a different boot camp, which is much better already. Many morons in the enlisted ranks, at least until they get some sense knocked in them. You don't want to live through that crap trust me.

Just get your degree, research the different branches in the meantime. Once you graduate, THEN go to the recruiting offices. I'm telling you, they will fuck you over if you sign before you graduate.

Yeah they will...
Don't be a fool take advantage of the situation and get a BS or BA under your belt before you join so you will go to OCS and become an officer, go enlisted and you will be stuck on shit detail mopping and sweeping for you first year if not 2.

I talked to the army and they said since I had a controlled substance charge under my belt that it would disquilify me from being in OCS

That's bullshit. They're hiring felons as we speak.

That's a lie to get you to sign up already, do SEE what we've been saying?

You can get a waiver for EVERYTHING, I know, I was a nuke.

yeah i figured I could get a waiver, i think that this guy didnt know his head from his ass. I know that they have more felonys and criminals in the armay now than ever but they just said no for OCS.
