anyone here ever hear of this ailment...Guillain-Barre syndrome?! about a month ago I went to the ER for a bad upper respitory infection that turned into a wicked earache.enuff so the pain was so bad they had to give me 10mg vicodin every 6hrs plus amoxicillin.in a few days it seemed to get knocked out of my system but by that next weekend I was back in the ER cause my hands/feet lost all feeling and my muscles were getting weaker each day.after getting admitted on 7/25 I had a team of 6-7 Drs seemingly around the clock looking at me.their diagnosis...Guillain-Barre Syndrome,an auto-immune deficiency where my own immune system was attacking my central nervous system.all my blood work came back negative...Hiv,Hep C,Std's,all negative and how I can't explain especially after almost 25yrs of using my body like a chemical amusement park but I'm not trying to figure out why anymore... sorry for the long run on paragraphs,i'm using a library comp that's a step up from a phone lol.anyhow was just wondering if anyone here knows of anyone who's come down with this malady.i'm supposed to start physical rehab forst week of Oct,i know...by that time I should be back to normal but it's the only thing I can get for now.recovery can be as close as a few weeks to a few years with most ppl returning back to normal, only a small nimber remain afflicted, almost along the lines of something as similar as MS.

It's pretty nasty. It can happen rarely after some vaccinations but it's hard to definitely connect to the cause in most cases.

hey glycol...good to see you and thanks for responding.yeah it was hard for them to diagnose me.they wanted to do a series of tests starting with an EMG where they insert needles int odifferent muscles then shock them but they had to sedate me with enuff valium to even get me into the room lol...then the last option would've been a spinal tap which I told them the only way to do it would to completely knock me out cold.i've seen someone get it done and I don't think I could ever endure that amount of pain.my condition has improved a lot since I was admitted to the hosp on 7/25,i spent a total of 12 days in Bellevue Hosp in NYC for this.i still have an unsteady gait, get off balance when I stand too quickly and still have tingling in my extremetise.they were giving me Gabapentin for the burning in my hands/feet then morphine/oxycodone for the excrutiating pain in my lower back/legs but after telling them I have an addiction to opiates and since my relapse in 3/13 I'm finally getting clean they're reluctant to prescribe anything stronger than Motrin, which does absolutely nada for me.i'm trying to read as much as I can on this subject to the best of my ability...

Damn man, that is rough. Things like viral infections can have side effects on your immune system and what it sees as a threat. The first part of any medical condition is the roughest. Seems like it was identified quickly, so that should help with recovery time.

I wouldn't take anything stronger than Motrin if I were you. The resulting pain will be much greater than whT you're feeling now.

Hang in there bro. You'll plow on through it. Just focus on what's ahead.
