Gym Confrontation

I only hit the gym one day a week usually, and that's on leg day. The amounts of weight I might go up to or equipment I might want to use, I don't have at home. So I hit the Gold's a couple of towns over. The town I live outside of only has one red light and one flashing light. I love it.
Anyway, I'm minding my own business, doing squats when a staff member shows up. Nice looking young man mid twenties probably, 5'9" ish, maybe 200 lbs soaking wet. (Not knocking those stats, just stating fact) And he was very physically fit. I found out he teaches their cross fit classes (again not knocking it, he could probably do well in a physique comp).
He came up to me after a set of squats 495?8. I'm huffing and puffing, I prefer one rep sets, and told me I wasn't going all the way down. There's a mirror that you face doing squats, which I hate because I Crack myself up if I happen to look at my face during a set. My point being I was going below parallel, I always watch my knees to make sure much butt goes below the knees.
I explained that I have several injuries that at my age cause me problems if I go down in the bucket, as I call it. He was telling me how wrong I was and how he could help me with better flexibility.
I elaborated on my injuries, right knee cap floats, it was broken into three pieces, there has been a large calcium deposit 3/4 of the way around my kneecap that pains me with every step, every day. My right ankle was shattered into 32 pieces that they could count and somehow fused itself back together, there were bones sticking out of my foot. Not to mention cushion between L5 and S1 deteriorating.
When I was younger the pain was just something I lived with, now it limits what I do, out of simple common sense.
After all that he's telling me my form sucks. I'm getting upset now and told him that form and depth has been fine in countless PL competitions.
So he begins telling me I wear the bar too low on my shoulders, I'm bent over a bit too much, blah, blah blah.
I let him finish and told him to show me how it's done. He starts to grad plates and take them off. I said wait a second, do it with the weight that's on there. I got in his face and told him to do it with the weight that's on there or get the Frick away from me and shut his mouth.
He mumbled something he's probably lucky I didn't hear. I asked him what he said, he told me he was just trying to help.
I told him, Son, my arms are almost 21" without a pump, my legs are probably bigger than your waist and I'm repping 495 on my 8th set of squats and I just turned 60 years old a week ago. Do I look like I need or want your help.
He just looked at me and said no sir.
I told him thankyou for his concern, now let me get back to my workout.
Unfortunately there were no blows thrown. I was hoping. Oh well, maybe next time.
 
Ahh don't take it personally maybe he was geniunely trying to help .... Maybe in terms of form for the type of exercise he does or most people do with low weight and isn't well versed with powerlifting techniques n what not... I get raged up too sometimes over nothing but I try to step back and just really look at the situation is it worth fighting n the cops coming over form tips lol..... Ps ur lifts are really amazing ��
 
lol im with u buf....ur twice the guys size and hes gonna tell u how to lift???? i hate guys like that
 
Maybe your form sucks dude! Lol I'm j/k. There's always one person who thinks they are a gift to the weight room. I had some fat pudgy guy try to tell me once how to do reverse flyes. Keep in mind my physique was way better than his, and I knew exactly what area I was targeting. I know the feeling. Just irks ya.
 
Well, as a guy who'd be crushed up like a pretzel at that weight I'll say "go with yer gut"

I was feeling a little bit sorry for him after it was all over, and my form probably does suck. But if you don't know yet, you'll find out that after a certain point in age the body does NOT bend the same way it used to. And my body is never going to be flexible again. Age does stuff to the body. It sucks, but at some point you just have to accept that.
 
Don't worry about it. I got into three altercations like that in a little more than a week this month.

Some altercations I like though.. like there is one really hot Brazilian chick trainer that tells me how my diet can be better. I don't really hear what she's saying and I kind of like the abuse. I just smile and agree staring at her camel-toe.

Respect for you Buf...you are one tough guy to still be able to squat considering your age and the fact you had your ankle and kneecaps ground practically to powder. It takes a great deal of restraint and self-control when some whippersnapper comes up to tell you how to lift when you been in the game for so darn long..even longer than that kid.
 
I'm just surprised it took you so long to snap on his ass!!! I guess you had to catch your breath...he is probably part of the Form Police you often hear about on youtube...lol
 
I am glad I am not the only orny old fart around here, that shit pisses me off when these young buck, crossfit fags try to tell me what to do.

Agreed! Things just dont bend and move like they use to.
But i do like how you put him in his place buff. Im a calm no conflict type but sometimes ya just gotta tell it like it is.
 
I'm not a back down from confrontation kind of guy. I won't say I love fighting but it's been a hobby of mine for the past 40 years. If I ever back down it's because cops are involved and jail sucks. I lose weight when I'm locked up.
 
All I said was that your form was off and I will like help you get more flexible why do you have to be so mean!!!

That would be great but I'll never look like him because I'm not pretty enough. Second reason my boss wouldn't be afraid of me any more and might start bossing me around. Third reason, even at my size I turn down as much female affections as he probably gets.
Fourth reason, respect, and the right to be heard are earned, not forced on a man. Fifth reason, somebody has to be able to shut people's mouths when they lift simply because of what they are lifting.

If you lost 50 lbs you'd be 225 with 19 inch arms and 30 inch thighs. Plus you'd be starving pissed off and you'd punch the next guy out for just looking like he was gonna say something about your form.

I'd be the first to admit it if I had been and it probably wouldn't have bothered me as much. And there's a mirror right in front of the squat racks, which I hate. But that's a whole other rant.
 
I don't like the young and witless giving advice to anyone in the gym, especially not if it was me.
 
So I was at the gym and this old dude was squatting only going down half way. I walked over to tell him to clean up his form and all he wanted to do was argue and fight........ LOL
j/k...
 
I wouldn't let the trainers at my gym fill my water bottle. None of them are worth a pimple on a bodybuilders back.

I hate the confrontations I walk into where the old guys in the locker room are nekkid with their legs up on the sink and trying to brow dry their balls and ass cracks.

I start to not think right and walk back out. I'm a coward:(
