Hang Cleans

Anybody do em? I just started them and wondering what (muscle/s) they really work.?
 
the work just about everything. You just take away the pull from the floor, which is IMO the most technical aspect of the movement.

They work the fuck outta you thats for sure. They are great in certain MetCons.
 
You should know what muscles they work based on what muscles are the sorest. :D

They directly work the traps, rhomboids and front delts bigtime. If you busted ass on them, you will feel it the next day in the traps & upper/inner back muscles.
 
Last night was the first time I did em, I added it to my deads. I mean I went from the deadlift position to hang clean and all the way to the floor again with the bar(variation of them). I had 205 on for 3 sets and I was sucking wind! I'm not too sore yet, but I'm getting stiff now. Haha
 
They are pretty rough on the joints. I did them years ago. Great overall exercise.

I used to love them years ago and I would be in a sweat after the first set. Great excercise. Preferred when I was younger no doubt

I would just do the hanging-cleans solo bro. I mean obviously one can deadlift a shitload more than they can clean, so whats the point of even doing the dead part of it?

I think you're right. It was more cardio than anything... Gonna do em regular this week. :)
 
so evidently this would def be considered a compound movement then right? what about the clean and jerk,isn't that from deadlift to almost an upright row to a straight military press?i think that would annihilate the shoulders,traps and upper back more than anything...

Yeah the clean jerk is good, but it messes up my routine since I don't do shoulders on back day. Wonder if that matters..?

if i had the room in either of my gyms i might try them.just started my 5/3/1 routine and that seems like something that would take care of 50% of my upper body work.hmmmm....
 
I have been wanting to try these for years. I had heard it is hard on the joints as pointed out above and it is an explosion speed training. Not much of a muscle builder. Used a lot in explosion sports like football. I decided against it since I don't have a need for that too much. Would be nice but just not worth any joint or injuries for me.
 
Feel like my traps are standing out a lil more from them. My joints are like a well oiled machine, so I'ma keep at em! :D
 
How is that doing on the forearms? I can use some help on mine... can't get them to grow. seems like that hits them similar to reverse grip curls but a lot more weight. Do you feel it there?

Not so much my forearms, but my upper back, neck and shoulders. I do em on shoulder/squat day. (which is tonight btw :))

what r we talkin bout, a clean and jerk with out the jerk? the upper half of a clean and jerk. hips to shoulders then overhead?
 
yes shovel, im drunk. bout to start cycle in couple of days so drinkin all the chivas regal i can get my hands on. damn i love this shit. if ya never tried it you must. trying to get my dick in the top of the bottle now. yes its that good!
 
Lmao! I haven't drank any in a couple years now. (don't know when to stop)

I was just doin a hang clean, but bringing it all the way back down to the starting dead position everytime. Nevertheless it wasn't much more than cardio. I've been staying with the conventional hang cleans for a few weeks now on shoulder/squat days.
