So i went to laboratory this morning to get some blood test for my liver (SGPT) , kidney (Creatinine), cholesterol, blood count and etc... And went to my doctor to see my results, he said that my liver, blood count is normal so with cholesterol. And my BP is fine as well. It's just that my Creatinine is over the limit. Normal is 0-1.3, but mine is 1.6. so the doctor told me it's prolly the protein intake that messes me up, he asked me how much protein that i take everday, so i told em 1.5 - 2.0 grams per body weight so around 350 grams - 400grams of protein per day. I also told him that i don't drink alcohol, smoke and etc (i don't have vices bitch) lol. My food is even tasteless. So the doctor concluded that! It's the protein that i take. It is way to high and told me to lower it down.. I was like WTF.. I can't do that. If i do that i will lose all the precious muscles that i gain.LMAO So he gave me this prescription (KESTOSTERIL) for regulating the process of my kidney.. And he also discussed about Atkin's diet, he said that if i follow this diet it may cause kidney problems...

So mods, docs, vets, and people who has more knowledge about this. HELP ME OUT!....

1.6 isn't bad, perhaps your doctor should realize that severe worlouts may also elevate Creatinine levels. Just increase water intake to six liters every 24 hours.

Did they do a 24 hour urine collection?
Did they tell you what your GFR is? This will not be accurate without a 24 hour urine collection
What is your baseline creatinine level? Cannot be determined with one test

My brother is a recipient of a kidney transplant 6 years ago so my knowledge on the matter is vast and I totally agree with lifts 1.6 should not warrant medication in my opinion excessive exercise which we probably all fall under can certainly increase Creatinine levels. Also the more muscle mass you have you may also have higher creatinine levels. If I were you, I would have them retest your levels in a couple of weeks and again in 3 months your doctor is making a conclusion off one test, which is crazy they need to see a trend or what they call a baseline value. When we were testing for donors, many people had elevated levels including my Mother who has a consistent level of 1.6 and all they do is monitor her no meds. I am not saying that you shouldn't take 1.6 seriously but continue to montior it with a urologist/nephrologist and they can determine the best action not your primary physician.

You are so right on the trend part.... He told me that it is all about baseline value... That's what im thinking too that 1.6 beyond 1.3 isn't that bad enough. Well the doctor told me to come back after a month. What should i say? that i didn't follow his instructions like lowering down the protein intake and taking all the meds that he prescribe.. And BTW i even try to ask him if i take 8litres of water a day can lower down my creatinine level. Then he said that it won't coz for taking too much high protein, the stress level of your kidney rises up.. I hate my fucking doctor for contradicting all my alternatives. LOL

My creatinine has been elevated for years, and my protein intake has only been moderate. Your amount of muscle mass affects it as well.

mine too and since all my blood work is normal i have had 5 or 6 doctor conclude that strenuous physical activity is the cause of the elevated creatinine levels and protein in my UA... doesnt mean ur having kidney problems..

Thanks wifey... muah.... hahahha

JP nailed it.

Elevated values of serum creatinine and more notably urinalysis creatinine should only be considered problematic when the proper preparation of these tests was employed. By this, 24 hours (48 is better) with no meat, no protein and no creatine is advised for accurate values. In addition to this, no exercise for 48 to 72 hours is also warranted, cardio included to be safe, as these also MAY significantly impact creatinine levels.

He is correct in his assertion that traditional Atkins diets MAY pose kidney stress. However, and unfortunately, mainstream people, Docs included, are not able to comprehend let alone differentiate Atkins (nasty greasey fatty meat choices, copious amounts of saturated fat and boat loads of sodium, little regard for healthy fat ratio's, amongst other variables that predispose one to many "mineral" ratio problems, blood pressure issues and subsequent kidney stress from both) verses clean healthy eating styles with high lean protein, adequate fiber, low sodium, adequate potassium and magnesium intake, and healthy fats.

If you truly wish to assess your kidney function, order a simple 24-hour creatinine clearance test and follow the aforementioned pre-test suggestions.

With all due respect to your Doc, as we can only assume he is merely looking out for your best interest but simply lacks an overall awareness of macronutritional factor's that influence blood assays; prescribing Ketosteril is not the correct methodology to approach this AT ALL. He should have looked for protein in your urine as well, first and foremost, before concluding that any kidney risk was apparent enough to prescribe a Rx drug to you, this is not to imply that withouth proteinuria has to present if a kidney problem exists.

I am NOT your Doc, but I would caution your taking of this or any drug until all parameters necessary to conclude kidney stress is evident. Again. He hasn't even concluded that your kidney is functioning sub-par.

What was your BUN (Blood Urea Nitrogen)? GFR? As JP mentioned, these are also invaluable here.

Water intake, to the tune of a gallon + a day (water ONLY), will serve your kidneys WELL with all that protein ingestion especially at your size, but that's an argument for another thread. I'm back up to 210 right now and IMHO, 200 grams/day is plenty for me anyway).

..

Thanks for that good info brother.... You made me wanna eat a bunch of protein lol.

Exactly! Every Dr. believes himself a specialist...not the case.
