Ok, my knee is toast at the moment and I cannot do cardio or train legs. I see my surgeon today and hopefully will have surgery VERY soon and get it fixed up. Until then, I can do upper body work.

So my diet has to be tweaked a little to keep me from packing on any unwanted fat. This is what I have in mind to do. Any suggestions would be more than appreciated

I will keep my protein intake the same. I get roughly 40 grams per meal/ 50 PWO

On non training days, I am going to cut my carbs back from 1/2 to 1/3 cup oatmeal with Meal 1. Meal 3- I can cut out the WW low carb tortilla and just a green salad, instead of both. Meal 5- green veggies and a salad, no rice. And cut out all fruit.

On training days, I'll do the same for Meal 1 and 2, then pre workout I used to have 2/3 cup egg whites and a fruit. What should I do here?

During my training I sip on water mixed with BCAA's and 20 grams dextrose. Should i cut the dextrose to 10 grams? Immediately PWO I drink a shake of 20 grams whey, 20 grams dextrose and 1 tsp CEE. I guess I'd cut the dextrose to 10 grams here too.

My PWO meal- I would keep the protein the preotein the same, and usually I'd have a med baked potato. So I could have a smaller potato, or should I go with someone different altogether? I was thinking of having oatmeal here instead.

I use flax oil- shoudl I cut back on this too, from 1 tbsp to 1 tsp maybe?

K, I think I have everything in there!!

here is what i would do if I were in your situation, on days you train upper body, keep diet and PWO same as your doing now.

on off days I would eat carbs at breakfast only......

Less activity means less calories burned, means the less you should be taking in. Pretty simple really. I think recovery should be your main concern. If you gain a little bf big deal, you can always get rid of it :D Getting that knee ready to go for the rest of your life is way more important.

Ps. Why do you drink dex during your workout?

Yes, I realize that. I was hoping someone might help me out with that and comment on what I had written- if they think it's good what I plan on doing, or suggest something else if they don't.

I can still train my upper body- that won't affect my knee. I do not plan on lying around all day. And a little extra fat on me is not something I need. It is much harder for me to get it off than for some.

I'll give an update on my knee in the general discussion area.

So salad and green veggies with supper woudl be ok, wouldn't it? Minimal carbs in that.

In general you can eat all the green veggies you want and not have to worry about them counting as "carbs". They are very low in total calories, generally won't cause an insulin spike, and the fiber in them will be good for ya.

aren't you currently dieting?

if so why would you add any fat continuing on with the diet?

I can't do any cardio until after I have knee surgery and recover. And I can't work legs, obviously :)

Yup, but I am very limited in the green veggie department :( One time I could eat cabbage, broccoli and spinach by the bucket load. Now they kill me. Makes me waaaaay too uncomfortable and it's not worth it. So I am limited to green peas and lettuce. I guess I could eat cauliflower and carrots occasionally. Sad.

I understand all that, but your calories on a diet should be low enough I cannot imagine you gaining any fat

Well, it was a maintenance diet, and I was doing 40 min cardio 4-5 times a week, and maintaining, so with no cardio, I can't imagine not gaining a few pounds. That only makes sense to me.

You should be able to pedal a bike within a week or 2 of your surgery IG... it won't be high intensity but it will be something. I usually start people out on something called NuStep within the first few days of surgery if they are allowed to bend the knee - it is like a bike but it doesn't require quite as much flexion to pedal it. A bike requires like 100-110 depending on where the seat is set (at least the ones I use do) - so you should be able to get in some cardio.
